Just to help out my fellow Foggers (couldn’t help myself) who might have the same issues this is what i did.

The problem was indeed that i didn’t have have vmware tools installed… I stopped trying to get that installed from VMware and tried virtualbox instead where i found solution.

Allso i went from Ubuntu to Fedora so this works for fedora …

In order to to install the VirtualAdditions in Fedora i used this guide:

http://www.if-not-true-then-false.com/2010/install-virtualbox-guest-additions-on-fedora-centos-red-hat-rhel/

i found though that i need to do this step again after i completed the guide:

mkdir /media/VirtualBoxGuestAdditions mount -r /dev/cdrom /media/VirtualBoxGuestAdditions
Remember to do “yum install bzip2” because it would be needed. I my have forgot the name but when you try and install VG it will complain and give you the correct name…

Hope this helped…

After testing that .29 worked, I upgraded to .32 and that also worked. In fact the image uploaded much faster after installing .32
Still none the wiser why .32 wont install correctly. I have checked the settings and to me they look the same but I am no Linux guru.

Okay, this is/was the problem:

the cloning DOES start, but it is really slow.
There is no image file visible in /images/dev for a really long time (20-25 minutes).

Thus, I can live with the black console 🙂

The console wont show anything, even with serial-stuff enabled in the pxe-config file.

i dont care any more, i am happy that this thing (an embedded system without vga-card) can be cloned :)))

Did you define a mysql password?

You need to manually enter the password in /var/www/fog/commons/config.php

Updating,

Two very importante things that I’ve experienced:

Wipe the disk before the image Run FSCK if the image is not uploading properly

Now seems to be working well in all hardwares.

Thanks!

Excellent news! I had tried various kernel and boot kernel combinations, but gave up and just used an older version of FOG. It’s nice to know we can avail ourselves of the new version and interface (and just switch boot kernels when needed). Thanks for the update!

Hi PatinMT,

FOGServer does but if you set it up as a Node it will not unless you modify the installer for node installation. Might be worth doing so if you have future setups?

Well done in solving your own issue 🙂 and posting the solution.

Are the any requirements for keeping your deployment LAN separated from your Production LAN, like multicast filtering, security, etc?

Are the machines in your production LAN already able to interact with the Fog server for client updates, snap-ins, etc?

This topic should not be in developer help, but I’ll give you some advice anyways.

You want to run your server with ProxyDHCP enabled. This detects PXE boot requests on the network, allows the computers to get an IP address from the real DHCP server but get PXE boot details from your fog server.

I have heavily modified the articles on the wiki with my experience using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and Fog 0.32. The article title is
Using FOG with an unmodifiable DHCP server/ Using FOG with no DHCP server

there are a few notes i have taken, using the partimage program in Fog 0.32

The image must be ext2 or ext3
You can’t use extended partitions, only Logical
swap got nothing special notes

but all partitions my come after each other, and not skip blocks between them, or else the hdd fails to restore proberly.

took some tries as i used some extended partitions first, they seem to not work at all in partimage.

i heard of some people trying to replace partimage with other tools, (but never tryed it myself), for better linux support, but as normal beings, i guess we just have to wait for fog 0.33

Like kevin mentioned. If your IP phones are on a seperate VLAN they can point to different boot server than the PCs because they would be on a seperate DHCP scope…

I fixed it by running the install script again.
