Are they Windows DVD’s? Linux DVD’s?
Some of both, really. Some might even just be software.

I’ll have to read over those links.

One odd thing with gpxelinux.0: tftp actually seems to be slower - so with it it’s http or nothing as far as I can see.

Good luck! We couldnt get Fog to deploy an image properly on either Ubuntu 12.04, or 11.04. Using Ubuntu 10.04 with Fog 32 gave no deployment issues… Now on to figuring out why multicast fails partway through, and with unicast works just fine… X(

Sorted this now, I used CloneZilla pxe to upload an image to each machine, once the initial image is deployed, fog will continue to image correctly.
So it looks like the problem is with the boot loader.

hello astrouge,

i figured out what was causing the macbooks to shut down. it turned out to be the install-restore.dmg files was only 1.6gb and when i remade the install-restore.dmg it came out 1.8gb i doubled check to make sure that was the correct size for that file for netRestore 3.4.6

now the mac finds the fog server but it just sits there with the apple logo and a spining circle.
i’m sure it has something to do with files:
booter
mach.macosx
mach.macosx.mkext

the files above are different for each folder they go into below, even though there named the same.
Ppc
i386
netBootSP0

netRestore make the files for ppc and i386 but not for netBootSp0.
so thats where i’m stuck.
i stop trying few days ago and now im back to try again…if i cant get it to work, i’ll try deploystudio.
i’ll keep you updated on anything the comes up.
Hi,

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately when I decompress the image and go to /tmp/tmpMnt/lib/ there is no udev directory so there are no udev scripts. Maybe I’m missing something… maybe I’m supposed to create the udev scripts…?

Also, if I run a find in /tmp/tmpMnt/ and grep for udev or firmware nothing is returned.

Can you provide a little more direction if you know the answer?

Thanks
Damian
I booted the system and I’m on the system now. If I find from the root I still don’t find udev but I DO find firmware. This is good.

Fog uses NFS to connect to storage nodes and download images.

I have done installs both ways. Fog install basically grabs the latest of each required package using apt-get. So as long as your mostly up to date and not running a conflicting package, it probably won’t matter. Fog install does grab more than just apache, mysql, and php.

If the fog server is outside of the virtual environment, you have to bridge the card of the virtual machine so it is accessible/visible by computers other than your VM host.
dumb question - can you ping the fog server’s ip address from one of your client machines?
Yep. No problem there. Can ping by ip address and hostname.
No question is a dumb question. I might have overlooked something small.

Hi Tom,

Well I finally got everything installed, and I can access the Fog management console. Now I will start trying to image my first machine, then work on sysprep and whatnot… Thanks for the help!

Just to help out my fellow Foggers (couldn’t help myself) who might have the same issues this is what i did.

The problem was indeed that i didn’t have have vmware tools installed… I stopped trying to get that installed from VMware and tried virtualbox instead where i found solution.

Allso i went from Ubuntu to Fedora so this works for fedora …

In order to to install the VirtualAdditions in Fedora i used this guide:

http://www.if-not-true-then-false.com/2010/install-virtualbox-guest-additions-on-fedora-centos-red-hat-rhel/

i found though that i need to do this step again after i completed the guide:

mkdir /media/VirtualBoxGuestAdditions mount -r /dev/cdrom /media/VirtualBoxGuestAdditions
Remember to do “yum install bzip2” because it would be needed. I my have forgot the name but when you try and install VG it will complain and give you the correct name…

Hope this helped…

After testing that .29 worked, I upgraded to .32 and that also worked. In fact the image uploaded much faster after installing .32
Still none the wiser why .32 wont install correctly. I have checked the settings and to me they look the same but I am no Linux guru.
