Thank you for the replies.

Since I already have the latest version installed. I will just try that quick. If it works, great. If not, then i’ll go back to version 13.

Have now connected everything to the school VLAN again.

Rebooted after fixing sleep 30.
Checked multicast log - no log for the last 3 hours
Multicast to 2 HP
TFTP is now running after reboot (problem fixed)
Multicast failed as expected
Stop and start multicast
Multicast to 2 HP
Multicast worked as expected
Checked multicast log - it is running now, BUT, the log shows 7:30 PM when it is actually 9:30 PM on the Ubuntu clock as it is in reality here in Norway. I just mention it in case it has significance.

This multicast problem is now predictable and fixable for me. I’m heading home.

Hello,
So after changing the sata operation mode from to Raid it seems to be proceeding with the deploy process. I am sorry I did not try this before I just figured that fog would work with IDE or ACHI mode both which i had tried earlier.

Thank you both of you for you help with this issue. although I am still confused why raid mode would work while ide does not.

No fog can use its own storage, in my experience I have always used a DHCP server to dole ip addresses, I have never successfully used a static network. I set fog at a static ip address so it never changes, and you can set your machines at static ip addresses, but in my experience pxe booting, something needs to be giving addresses for the machines to have during the boot process.

If you are not interested in using a DHCP server, look into the dnsmasq option and server proxy ip addresses for the pxe boot process only.

IMHO I think it a better idea to use DHCP and just reserve your addresses to a MAC, but to each his own.

DNSMASQ can help with supplying the boot server and file name to multiple subnet, it may be something to think about.

And you have restarted apache2?

Is there another line in the config with a different timezone set? If there is one further down it will override the line you are setting.

When you select an option from the PXE menu, such as Full Host Registration and Inventory, FOG always uses the default bzImage. After a host is registered, you can specify which kernel to use for all tasks created and scheduled through the FOG web UI. If you have to manage multiple bzImage files for compatibility reasons, use the “Host kernel” setting for each host to specify the kernel that works best for that system. You can also group hosts, and update all host kernel settings for particular group of hosts. Just remember that groups in FOG 0.32 are a bit unusual. They are used for changing settings on all hosts in the group, but will not show your existing group settings.

The only method, I know of, to check the kernel version is to boot a system in debug mode and run the command:
uname -rm
This command will tell you what version and architecture the kernel is in. As it’s FOG 0.32, most likely the kernel arch is 32 bit (x86) but I can’t give you much more. However, I wouldn’t think you would need to go through all of that. If you know a kernel that works in one place, why not just rsync or ftp that kernel to all the other sites directly. As you stated, it works in one place, but not another, it’s obviously due to the kernel’s NOT being the same. At least that’s how I’m seeing it.

WOW, okay so if I start to image the VM with Server 2012 then cancel it, change the image back to 2008 R2 and then re deploy, it images…
still no luck. may have to backup and re-install the server. What is the best Ubuntu OS version to install 0.32 on?
I use 10, 11, 12, 13 all seem to be good and stable… I would stay away from the older versions though as they are no longer in development.

I prefer the gnome desktop variant opposed to that Unity crap! Of course that is preference 🙂
