Once you have access to all of the scripts it’s pretty easy to add the linux command (for the life of me I can’t remember what it was as I’m a confirmed Linux noob to my eternal shame !) so that at the end of the process it’ll sit there and wait for a keypress.

I was struggling setting up the task to upload the image. I realized the problem I was having was due to the fact that I created a new storage group incorrectly instead of using the default. After watching all the videos and following the documentation, I figured out how to create the task. Right now, the upload is pending. I am waiting on our network admin to make the necessary changes to our DHCP server. After that, I think everything will be fine.
One question I still have; What is the purpose of the Fog Client?

did you FogCrypt your password?

For the default domain name, I use the fully qualified domain name (fqdn), ex: mydomain.com
I leave the OU blank.
For the user name, I use the netbios domain name, which is the same as the first part of the fqdn, but you can use the fqdn also, PLUS my domain name.
For the password, it’s the user’s password FogCrypted.

It works for windows xp and windows 7 pro 32 and 64 bit.

We are running Windows Server 2008 R2 as our domain controllers, if that makes any difference.

We have our fog server running on a Celeron machine with 4GB RAM and a WD Caviar Black 7.2k SATA drive. It has a 1GB link to the network and all clients have a 100Mbps link.

We roll out 10 machines at a time, and did an 18GB image on Friday in 15 minutes for 10. So our room of 22 finished in about 40 minutes.

So your spec should be fine.

I checked the client computer and the log file says “green fog failed to connect to fog server” I know the fog server is running and I turned off the firewall on the fog server for testing but still get the same message. Any ideas why the client can’t talk to the fog server? I can ping the server from the client

We finally resolve the issue!! After trying all sort of upload methods, we finally thought something must be different in the way Dell loaded the original image. We reinstalled the factory image with another Dell install disk , and ran the upload task again. This time it was only grabbing the used space. We used the same method as all other images (multi partition re sizable ) When they imaged the disk from the factory, it must add some white space. Hope this helps!

PXE boot requests would need to be directed towards your FOG server. If an imaging task is scheduled, and the client is set to PXE boot, it will then begin the scheduled task. If no task is scheduled, you can have the FOG menu displayed for x seconds before booting into the client OS.
