@tesparza If unicasts are fine, but multicasts are not then I would start with the igmp snooping. There may be another command that needs to be enabled for the catalyst line. I seem to remember there is but can’t remember the details at the moment.

@tesparza Which version of FOG do you run? I know we have a fair amount of users doing Win 10 with FOG and don’t see all of them reporting this issue. Not saying that FOG isn’t doing this but I guess it’s more likely something with your image.

Just in the fwiw bucket, we recently found out that if you have 2 or more simultaneous multicasts streams going at one time, the trasfer rates drop off quite a bit. I do remember seeing someone create a patch to change the multicast base IP address with each new stream. That seemed to resolve the issue.

We recently had an issue where the time zone wasn’t being set correctly/updating on imaged machines. We edited the registry with a script on those machines to set the correct time zone.

yes. zip up all the installers you wish to package together into a single zip file with a single batch install script (let’s call it install.cmd) that runs each executable with its relevant silent install options (these can typically be found at their websites).

      zip file contents:

      install.cmd 7z-x64.exe firefox.exe firefox.ini ChromeStandaloneSetup64.exe vlc3.exe

      install.cmd:

      7z-x64.exe /S /D="C:\Program Files\7-Zip" firefox.exe /INI=[FOG_SNAPIN_PATH]\firefox.ini ChromeStandaloneSetup64.exe /silent /install vlc3.exe /S /L=1033

note: you would need to create & include firefox.ini in the zip file along with the relevant firefox installer, as seen above

when you create the snapin pack use:
      template: batch file
      snapin pack file: cmd.exe
      snapin pack arguments: /c “[FOG_SNAPIN_PATH]\install.cmd”

@tesparza the file you are running doesn’t appear to be the installer. It appears to be a self extracting archive that contains the installer. Once you give it a path, it should place all of its install files there, including a DXSETUP.exe, which would accept /silent.

My suggestion is to either find a different version of the installer, such as an MSI, or to take the extracted files and create a snapinpack out of them.

@x23piracy file shares can be difficult with the client, because of SYSTEM privileges, and self extracting files have their own limitations. SnapinPacks were created to address this exact scenario due to a lack of a good alternative.

@tesparza Thanks a ton for your good will to help! Appreciate.

It’s a paid software. I need it to keep the students from destroying the computers.

I have found another thread talking about this RRRx software (which does the same so I don’t mind using it instead) and he fixed it by replacing the boot file, he used ipxe.kpxe instead of undionly.kkpxe.

And here is the proccess I made trying to figure out the problem: https://forums.fogproject.org/topic/15636/unable-to-boot-properly-after-radix-smartrecovery-installed/2?_=1628169887941

@tesparza did you run PrinterManagerHelper on a computer that has the printer already installed? It will give you all the field values, as sometimes even things such as Model aren’t what you think they should be. Did you also try using the generic printer inf the tool will point you to? It should work for the majority of printers.

@Wayne-Workman until we know more information its doubtful the powershell script will likely do anything to resolve his issue, as we do not yet fully know what it is. Based on the errors this seems to be a simple configuration issue for now.

As a note, the client log states that it has already attempted to configure the printer, not that it is installed. If a printer configuration fails to add once, there is no reason for the client to continue spamming your printer spooler every cycle unless the config has changed. If you scroll up more in the log to where the client first attempts to add the printer, you’d probably see an error message similar to what PrinterManagerHelper is giving you.

@tesparza well that would certainty do it. Reset Encryption Data is generally not advised to be done unless you specially do something to the client that would require it.

In as simple terms as possible, no. We’ve found that the Goldilocks for compression is probably 5 or 6. This gives a semi balanced data across network and writing data to the hdd. The network throughout should be faster at max compression, but writing to disk takes a bit longer as it needs to decompress. Little/no compression is hell on network, but fast to write to disk as no/minimal decompression must happen.

@compman while that’s true, in practice zstd at a higher compression level will return a faster overall process when the bottleneck is the network.
