@wayne-workman Yeah, I was trying to address an issue I was seeing the wrong way. It would be much cleaner to just do a split horizon dns to address the issue.

@george1421 Thanks George. I understand about the IP reasons.

That site makes sense, now that I can see where the offline service bit had to be put. I had it in the wrong spot on mind, which meant drivers weren’t being picked up. Moved it, and it’s working great.

Thanks!

@Wayne-Workman

The devs are still busy folks…

From the RC4 change log

Fix multicast issues for the fog service. Fix multicast not closing on task cancellation from active tasks page (hosts are being untasked but session still exists.)

From the RC3 change log
88197b5 Update Version to 1.3.0-RC-3
f31b852 Merge branch ‘working-RC-3’ into dev-branch
3fd5ff3 (origin/working-RC-3, working-RC-3) Enable snapin location altering or not via locations.
58709a1 Update iPXE files to latest pull.
b1f9240 Add back the 7156 efi files for ensuring surface pro’s can still boot.
a9652be More accurately display multicast and don’t create a tasking, but do report why the tasking couldn’t be created.
99ef87a Make sure only multicast sessions that have a defined session client count are able to be used for multicast session joining.
627348c Use the fullPath variable for the multicast task.
363ef28 Ensure multicast continues even if the file cannot be found. Otherwise it will fail for that node and nothing after that point will run properly.
3cf50e3 Properly link progress row with it’s task.
67d5ebe Fix issue with multicast sessions being cleaned before they’re even booted.
2b692a7 Fix issue with printer memberships
289524f Fix getting the snapin job variable as there was a typo.
98921af Add expand-child element to the progress row.
ed70684 Make sure version is incremented
3eae96c Remove accesscontrol plugin
8327f66 Make fog configuration use ajax for kernel versions.
a8acad2 Address issue with nodes blocking load of the page.
3f38ef8 Make sure suf variable in javascript returns if suf is null
5158f67 Fix upload last time not setting.
f2d8d72 Fix split call.

@Bob-Henderson If you update, we think the bandwidth graph is fixed.

And, it’s fine - I was lost in outer space for months when I started messing with fog. I think I still am sometimes.

@cnewman402 The OP had an issue because the fog installer at the time was clearing his db settings in .fogsettings. I appreciate you contributing, but this thread isn’t related to SELinux. Maybe make a blurb in the tutorials area?

This is what I’ve done 99% of the time. However, this client routinely needs to image 300+ devices in a short amount of time. Unicast works well, but being able to do 40+ in one go would save hours of man time.

@Tom-Elliott alright, cool.

Sorry for my ignorance, but I seem to remember Snapins before needing to be wrapped with SFXMaker and such for all things. Is that still the case, or can I now just upload a script and be done with it?

UPDATE

Never mind, uploaded a bat file and it ran flawlessly. Thanks for the help, now my thin imaging with PDQ to throw apps on afterwards is working fantastically across all sites!

@Wayne-Workman

That’s also in the works. Again, it’s for the stop gap in between time. The clients are laptops that students roam with, and due to them being on wireless with cached logins, group policy takes longer than I’d like to roll out.

I’ll throw it into PDQ deploy though, that should handle it pretty fast. Thanks for your help and input!
I greatly look forward to any documentation of your travels in this. It is something I have fiddled with, but have lacked the time to actually work on. I have a hunch that, if you are running a Windows Server Domain environment, you could use a WDS server to figure out the different systems, then chain it into the appropriate boot files fog FOG.
Follow my travels here: http://fogproject.org/forum/threads/undionly-kpxe-and-ipxe-efi.12607/

That’s the junk thread that everything I find is going into… When I’ve got it nailed down, I’ll make a wiki article.

To a certain point, yes multicast is faster in performance, but it uses UDP with broadcasting all the “image’s” packets across your network. Unicast uses TCP directing the traffic to that particular machine. If on a separate network you will not see any issues either way. If on the same network (using multicast) you will find that your “bandwidth” will be effected throughout the entire network.

is there a approve all macs?

FYI: Wireless macs show up for hosts if the client is installed. Also to install snapins client must be installed.
FYI2: New Client will be more useful for snapins and other exciting options.

While it’s not recommended, it is possible.

However as junk suggests, I would not perform an import of the database especially if you’ve already installed FOG 1.x.x as you’ll be essentially creating an update that shouldn’t have to happen and could corrupt other issues.
