Aside from doing it manually, it would be nice if you could download into a local repository/cache then locally swap by selecting internet delivered or locally cached; instead of relying on the internet all the time.

I realize that, but it fails a lot for me … especially today. Nearly a full half-hour of heart-stopping, omg I gotta upload this image panic.

I agree, it needs better error handling.

    • RE: Svn 3373 Kernel version display

      It’s back! … but with a twist.

Rolling the kernel back to 3.18.5 had me quite worried for about a half-hour.

Over and over again I would try to download the x86, then the x86_64 version.

No version number would display. Actually trying to use boot would get me invalid or unrecognizable format errors from the bzImage.

Eventually, after nearly a half-hour of attempts my kernel displayed on both as 3.18.5 … and then it worked.

So it appears that the kernel update/downloading process is broken. Until and unless the actual version number of the kernel is displayed, the existing kernel file is corrupt.

SVN3504 on Debian 8.0.0.0 is what I’m on right now.

It’s also important to note that this problem occurred on Ubuntu 14.04.2 and many different SVNs prior.

When performing the download update, is it possible to not overwrite the status text? It may say it was successful, but I bet that text says otherwise.

Missed the GONG eh? My age is showing.

Well, I’ve decided to go Debian for any future development/deployment, so Ubuntu is so Windows XP to me now.

FOG now has everything it needs to setup your server, but please
understand that this script will overwrite any setting you may
have setup for services like DHCP, apache, pxe, tftp, and NFS.

It is not recommended that you install this on a production system
as this script modifies many of your system settings.

This script should be run by the root user on Redhat or with sudo on Ubuntu.

** Notice ** Redhat users will need to disable SELinux and iptables in
        order to use FOG
Please see our wiki for more information at http://www.fogproject.org/wiki

Here are the settings FOG will use:
               Base Linux: Debian
               Detected Linux Distribution: Ubuntu
               Installation Type: Normal Server

DHCP will NOT be setup but you must setup your
current DHCP server to use FOG for PXE services.

On a Linux DHCP server you must set:
                   next-server

On a Windows DHCP server you must set:
                   option 066 & 067

Option 066 is the IP of the FOG Server: (e.g. 172.19.244.22)
                         Option 067 is the undionly.kpxe file: (e.g. undionly.kpxe)

      Basically,

      1. Exported my Fog Configuration settings from my existing development fog (svn 3477) on Ubuntu 14.04.2
      2. shutdown the vm
      3. attached existing development .vhdx image drives to new Debian 8.0.0 svn 3504 based Hyper-V 2012 R2 virtual machine.
      4. Fired that mother up
      5. ran my changename and fog mobilization scripts
      6. updated the IP address for the two storage nodes (default, other) pointing to the two .vhdx purpose drives ( mounted as /images and /other )
      7. imported the saved configuration and then the verified usernames/passwords for tftp, management, unix etc.
      8. Doing a quick image as I type this. booyah

      Also tested:
      de-registration
      quick registration
      Task deploy (download)

      SVN 3504 on Debian 8.0.0

It looks like this forum’s editor doesn’t like square brackets. I replaced all instances with ordinary parentheses to make it work. On the bright side, I can paste the entire log without running into a character limit.

      Checked out revision 3504.

        #####################################################################

               Detected Linux Distribution: Debian
               Installation Type: Normal Server
               Server IP Address: 172.19.244.22
               DHCP router Address:
               DHCP DNS Address:
               Interface: eth0

               Internationalization: 0
               Image Storage Location:
               MySQL Connection Type:
               Donate: 0

DHCP will NOT be setup but you must setup your
current DHCP server to use FOG for PXE services.

On a Linux DHCP server you must set:
                   next-server

On a Windows DHCP server you must set:
                   option 066 & 067

Option 066 is the IP of the FOG Server: (e.g. 172.19.244.22)
                         Option 067 is the undionly.kpxe file: (e.g. undionly.kpxe)

I really think that the other upgrading methods should be ditched, IMHO. But others here feel otherwise.

I very much agree. There have been so many major fixes, changes and improvements, that anything less than SVN (3410 in my case) is hamstrung by comparison.

Sad truth is, although Tom is fuc**** awesome at what he does, he is largely a one-man-army and he has a full time job and wife and so on. He’s the driving force behind FOG.

Okay, I’m now warming to the view style. I’ve set oldest > newest … and it is thankfully became a universal setting once I finished reading through every single thread I had already opened.

The top level topic and downstream topic screens I’m not so crazy about; but then I’m bypassing that altogether for reading by going straight to the unread instead.

I really, REALLY miss the ability to edit a post after posting.
