You can do it manually for now. You CANNOT use the new inits with 1.2.0, if you download those and place them, no imaging will work at all. Just try the new kernel and keep a copy of your old kernel incase it bombs. Link here for steps:

Make sure you pay attention to the old file name before moving it - I think 1.2.0 was 32 bit. The kernel bit has to match the init bit.

I was having the same problem and didn’t read all the way to the bottom. I was looking at the files in /tftpboot and found that the default.ipxe file had a string containing http://ip-address/service/ipxe/boot.php#params or something similar. I inserted fog and it booted up.

Ages ago I did some testing with BTSync for this. might be worth investigating… unless RSYNC suits you better.

Assuming you are running Ubuntu 13 or below the kernel is located in /var/www/fog/service/ipxe folder.

If you run Ubuntu 14 or higher, or a CentOS/RHEL edition, your kernel will be located in /var/www/html/fog/service/ipxe.

To check to see which kernel you are using, please log into the FOG Web GUI and click on the Fog configuration button on the top right, then select Fog Settings from the left, and finally expand the selection TFTP Server in the center. There you can see the folder FOG is using for the kernel as well as the kernel in use, it should resemble bzImage32, if you are using the 64 bit kernel your file will be bzImage.

Used some info that has been thrown around about these files and checked on a few other sites and threw this together. This should cover most questions on PXE and iPXE along with the different file types.

If you’re wanting a newer OS that still runs smoothly and lacks bloat then I’ll toss in another shout out to using Debian 7.5 . But yes, with any system its best to get major OS work out of the way before trying to set up software that you want to be stable. Dependencies change, folder locations change, kernels change… it can be a mess for software to go through OS upgrades.

For what it’s worth, if it’s stuck on the black screen + “ipxe initialising devices”, undionly.kkpxe works. Our HP 4520s have the Realtek NICs which have this issue.
