@wayne-workman Although not ruling out my error, I see that the modified dates seem correct.

RE: Remote Storage Server
Just curious where this has gone… I keep going back to the idea of using Fog but without some sort of replication over a secure channel (non managed VPN’s) but Auto OpenVPN connected encrypted channels. Its not a real viable solution IMO for MSP’s.

Deployment of Image results in restore of different image
Version: 1.4.4 6077
OK so wierd issue. I have created an image and used it on 3 machines. “Betor10”
Created a second image “Windows10Base” Used it on a standard Dell machine.Had an issue with one of the first 3 images and needed to restore Betor10 again. This time after restore I noted that the image is the Windows10Base. Thinking perhaps I selected the wrong image, I did it a second time. Same thing!!
Looking on the storage server the image seems intact modified date the correct time and such. Why would it possibly be restoring the wrong image?

RE: Remote Storage Server
@george1421 Totally agree with taking a step back. To answer your questions.
We do at present create master images for our clients in our Move Add Change Room.
Machines get delivered to our clients then imaged. We have an entire department dedicated to just maintaining images and update software updates. So syncing down the the client is the preferred method.Correct on the statement about just needing Port 443 access to FOG UI.
As it relates to the community, the benefit can be 2 fold… First no dependency on lan communication (Pre Existing VPN Tunnels or MPLS Links) The entire solution becomes more secure as communication happens though an SSL tunnel. Allows for disconnected branches and minimal configuration to get an entire fog solution up and running. Imagine From download to install only taking an hour with multiple locations configured.

RE: Remote Storage Server
@Wayne-Workman This would be HUGE!! Perfect. Then its all just tied in and working with a simple install.

RE: Remote Storage Server
@Wayne-Workman With this OpenVPN Router what would you think of running this on the FOG server itself?
Of which this would / could just allow the remote machine and the Fog Server to communicate with one another only.

RE: Remote Storage Server
Thanks for the responses guys.
So yes I know about the installer and selecting S. The reason for keeping it Central is because we do Central IT Services for several customers. Having a Centrally managed Deployment solution is better for standards sake. We have also used a solution called Persystent by Utopic, however seems we find more bugs in it than the 10’s of thousands of deployments they have
So I have looked into doing a hybrid model Fog and Persystent.
The Goal to have a <12 Min resolution time on the help desk. With Tools like Fog and Persystent the goal can become reality, if kinks can be handled accordingly.

Remote Storage Server
Hey guys, I am interested in possibly building out Remote Storage servers in excess of 72 Locations, spanning about 3700 machines.
Each location is a different AD (location plugin going to be used).
Each location would not have a VPN.In this scenario as i describe each location will be running hardware that we have build up as Remote Backup Servers with HyperV installed. I would like to inject a FOG Storage Server with very little configuration.
I have been using Fog off an on for a while now but not without a VPN connection.
What are the thoughts of just opening Replication Ports (FTP), and MySQL? (Obviously with IP based access control.)Would it be best to have Storage nodes have some kind of Auto VPN connection (OpenVPN?)
I dont think I have found any Remote Storage Node install document… based on recommended options. Perhaps we can develop one? Assuming that we are not just working with a single organization and supporting multiple environments.
If possible what ports are absolutely needed for Firewall rules? FTP and MYSQL?
Does anyone have an auto VPN script on startup? -
RE: Using Host Tags as Variables in Snap-Ins
@Wayne-Workman No I am talking about HostTag’s Yes of course you can use system variables… I want to pass the contents of anything in HostTag’s Fields in the host settings (within Fog) to pass down as a variable to be used in a SnapIn install.

RE: Send message to Slack
@Tom-Elliott Sorry but no messages in that channel. I just see this message: sourceminer [8:34 AM]
deployments Account linked to FOG GUI at: fog.domain.net -
RE: Send message to Slack
@Tom-Elliott Thanks, so yes I have the API Key, and the channel I created in my Slack called #deployment. I have deployed and installed snap-ins but have not seen any updates to the channel.

RE: Using Host Tags as Variables in Snap-Ins
Host Tags can include items that might pertain to other systems. Take for example Labtech Software. They use a System ID as well as a location ID, that can be used to identify agent installers by, or if your integrating links you can use that for external management links that might include Remote Control etc.
Now to install the management tools I have to create packages that are specific to the location, download them and then upload into a snapin of Fog. That is unless I have a generic Agent installer that I can pass an argument to like setup.exe /AgentLocID=<FogHostTag>

RE: Send message to Slack
@Wayne-Workman So I have added the API Key, added the channel (with the Hash symbol right?) Im not seeing any updates.

Using Host Tags as Variables in Snap-Ins
Just thinking out of the box here, but would be nice to have software deployments that can possibly use the host Tags as variables. One case may be using other IT Management software that uses location ID’s or machine ID’s that could tie installing the software needed to the ID.

RE: Send message to Slack
@Wayne-Workman Sweet thanks for the response… I must have missed this, Was looking all over.

RE: Send message to Slack
I love this, is there any plugin documentation yet? I’m trying to find where I get the slack API key

RE: FOG Service - Register no longer working?
Looks like it might be legacy… Where do I download the updated client? I cannot seem to find the correct link
-
RE: FOG Service - Register no longer working?
Seemed to have worked by adding the FQDN\username format.

RE: FOG Service - Register no longer working?
Hey Tom I am still getting this error in the last updated SVN
HostnameChanger Domain Error! (‘Unknown Error’ Code: 1355)
Format is: domain.local, no OU, username, encrypted password
Any ideas?
Can join machine manually -
RE: TFTP Boot Dell Optiplex 780 (Lastest Bios A15)
Sounds good Tom, I was hesitant to use the Development build for obvious reasons. For the record 1.2.0 is the version I downloaded from the Sourceforge link on the home page: http://sourceforge.net/projects/freeghost/files/latest/download
I will attempt to use the latest development build located here:
