    • Snapin Pack

      Hi All,
I am running RC-8 and am having trouble with a snapin pack. Disclaimer, this is all new to me so I could be missing something simple. I uploaded my .zip and tried both MSI and EXE attempts to no avail. I tried with and without the /quiet arguments as well. It gets past the point of downloading and running the msi or exe but then nothing. The processes sit there with little resource use and sit until I end them. I am thinking that it is a function of the specific MSI or EXE I am trying, but I wanted to cover my bases. See the below screens for more info.

@Wayne-Workman Restored from a 3 day old backup. Phew I’m lucky. Wonder what happened… We have barely touched FOG in the last 3 days.

      Hi Wayne,
I did both queries and got 61 rows in the first one, with about 25% with a 1 in the pending field. For the second one there were quite a few more (2745 rows) but there are all 0’s or blanks for pending. I’m glad it isn’t my database. Sanity restored 🙂 So what next?

    • Possible Database issue: All registered hosts gone and graphs are inaccurate

      Hey guys,
I logged into my fog GUI this morning and much to my horror all of my hosts (1000+) were gone. We use FOG for inventory as well so this kinda stinks. I’ve been on RC8 for a while now, but it appears something is amiss with some connection (database or storage node?). I really hope my hosts are not gone for good…

Here is what clued me into something being up:

We haven’t imaged anything for days. Let me know which logs are needed.

      Thanks!

    • RE: FOG Mobile stuff

I may have spoke too soon… I noticed that all you can do is deploy from Mobile. I understand why though. It is meant to be lightweight and simple. That being said, it would be cool to do basic host management as well. Just a thought

Man I’m glad this thread popped up. I was hurting a month back when I had to go along and delete old hosts as I replaced classroom PC’s with new ones. All I had was my phone on me and I managed to use the full site but the text was so tiny… lol. I’ll give this a try when it is applicable. Thanks!

    • RE: Off Topic - Automatically provisioning AD accounts from SIS & EIS

@Wayne-Workman I am interested in something like this. We have a student information database we can access from what I believe to be the state. Our challenge is moving toward individual student logins that then translates using GADS (google ad sync) to create google accounts. The caveat is that it needs to be granular enough to put into different grade levels, graduating classes and deactivate ones that have graduated, etc. My colleague successfully converted some Perl script he found into Powershell and we think this will work (if I fully understand what is going on). What types of databases does your solution interface to? I’d have to get more info on the state’s database, plus we are confident that the script will work, but I’d like to have this in my back pocket or suggest it as an alternative to a homemade script. I would be very interested if you could message me info on this.

@george1421 Ah this makes sense. My colleague notified me he uploaded an image and it didn’t seem to finish the task. That is when I noticed the disk was full. Got it.

    • "dev" in Images Folder

      Hi Everyone,
I was just cleaning up old images on my server after I let it run out of room (oops!). As I was cleaning, I compared to the list of images on the FOG GUI vs. the folders in the /images folder. I noticed there were many that were removed that still existed in the folder, so I cleaned those out. I deleted those through the GUI a while ago and vaguely remember there being a bug back then. Anyhow that’s not what I’m worried about. What is concerning me is a folder within /images called “dev” that is 50 GB. It is kind of a mystery what its purpose is and where it came from. It seems to be a very recent addition. Please see the below screenshots:
      0_1469729443580_Capturedev.PNG
      0_1469729456024_Capturedev2.PNG

      0_1469729595625_dev3.PNG
      0_1469729606633_Capture4323.PNG

It appears to be an image of sorts, but I don’t know what/where it came from and if is safe to remove.

      Thanks!

@Wayne-Workman I figured it out! I’m actually kinda proud of this one. Please see below for all of my Windows Server 2012 configs

    • RE: Black Screen on Surface Pro 4

@Wayne-Workman I’m back in the office and the Surface’s are not deployed, so i can test a bit longer. The sub-model is Surface Pro 4 1724 (I think that is the sub model at least. I did some reading up on that ISC-DHCP and realized I don’t utilize this. I currently do not have a test network environment, so I can’t really set one up quickly. At your leisure, can you tell me if I can skip that and go directly to the Server 2012 configuration?

@Wayne-Workman I use Server 2012 as my DHCP server, so how would I incorporate this into that (no idea what or where the ISC-DHCP config file is)? Should I follow the wiki instructions? Pardon my ignorance on the subject. Also, tomorrow I can get you the sub-model, but are we talking the surface, or the dongle?

@fry_p I looked through it, there are no DHCP packets in it. Thanks for trying though. Maybe tomorrow?

whoops, I needed a refresher on wireshark lol. After some googling, I filtered it to host (IP OF SURFACE) and udp ports 67 or 68 between the DHCP server and the surface

edit: I’m out of the office tomorrow and the pro 4 i have for testing may be deployed by Thursday

@Wayne-Workman I’m still up to doing it… If I do this, we would be able to set a class much like my UEFI/BIOS Co-existence on DHCP? I’d like this very much.

@fry_p I don’t understand what DHCP packets are or aren’t going to prove? It’s not failing to see or download or even execute the files. It’s failing to release the file back to allow booting the bzImage/init together.

On the other hand if this is a moot point, I won’t bother. Let me know

Unless you are talking about Wiresharking the packets between the surface and the fog server. If so I can give that a try today. I did back up the files before I uploaded the other ones.

That’s what I’m asking for. Different people have different ways of getting it done. Just a full DHCP conversation is all that is needed.

I have some spare time and a surface pro 4 sitting in front of me. I can get you that capture. I’m rusty on Wireshark so it may take a minute lol

    • RE: Black Screen on Surface Pro 4

@Psycholiquid This is what helped me:

@Tom-Elliott said in Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Deployment stuck at init.xz:

Try changing your tftp files with those from:

      https://sourceforge.net/p/freeghost/code/5835/tree/trunk/packages/tftp/

I don’t know why, but this particular issue seems related to something that I have literally no control over.

I had the same issues with a Pro 4 either getting stuck at init.xz …OK or a black screen (on RC1 and RC2). The ipxe files in the current release don’t seem to play nice. Give that a try and see what happens. Remember to not move/rename/delete the default.ipxe out of the tftpboot folder (or else you have to reinstall), everything else can be replaced.

@Tom-Elliott That worked. What was different about what I had vs. the ones you had me download? I tried re-installing this morning and that didn’t work.
