      @Foglalt What would be interesting to know from a running windows OS, to look at the installed nvme hard drive. Were the computers that used that exact hard drive slow where the same model that used brand Y of the nvme drive OK? We seen this condition on a dell computer where they intermixed nvme drives on a single model.

      @Foglalt said in ASRock B360M Pro4 imaging issue:

      As for the fog versions. I would upgrade it when i will have time for it.

      At this time I’m only suggesting that you update the FOS Linux kernels in /var/www/html/fog/service/ipxe directory. There are two files there bzImage and bzImage32 (watch the case). Replace them with 4.12.3 versions from here: https://fogproject.org/kernels/

      Download them, rename them to bzImage and bzImage32 respectively and then move them to the fog server in the path above. Be sure to rename the original files just in case you need them later. Once you are on at least 4.12 then the new(ish) hardware with the I219 network adapters (very common nowadays) will be supported.

      Oh… I didnt even think about it that way. Especially that we have the “locked” state for the same purpose, prevent accidental deletion. Actually it is a double of the double protection. Not truly bad, but… strange design.

      As time goes, time to time i turn back to my previous things for refreshing memories, getting new ideas, whatever. So it happened to this topic.

      I am again thinking about fully offline cases. We here discussed that zstd compression is not compatible with clonezilla so i have to recapture image to use tools like clonezilla which uses same image taking tool. But… as now i have read, clonezilla now capable using zstd compression (er… whatever it means exactly btw).

      Let me ask if it is still true or not to use already taken images (by for) deploy from a live clonezilla-like tool without recapturing? Anyone tested maybe?

      @Foglalt Thanks for the thumbs up! You are welcome and I am sure we can figure out what’s wrong in case this is still happening with 1.4.4! Please keep us posted.

      We are over some tests at last. As you suggested I did the following:

      used a total dumb “link” between the pc and the network (hub): no change, still no boot properly I used undionly.kkpxe and ipxe.pxe one by one. unfortunatelly no change.

      Still no change, that means this hardware has somehow problems. Any other suggestion maybe? The problem is that we will surely get such hw, so it would be good to have a workaround somehow. Ah, one more thing. ipxe.pxe file gave a little difference. It said during boot that it boots from SAN device. Does it changes a thing?

      Guys, during the struggle to reproduce the issue somehow i found something strange. Let me describe it.

      Starting point: host has a valid mac, up to date. i want to change mac. It can cause 2 different output, and i think it can cause the result somehow (i will do more tests to see if it really happens, but the difference made me curious).

      mac update method1: host primary mac field is the only field, no additional field. i select the full field, then overwrite mac. result is a new mac on primary and an additional mac field appears with the previous mac address (which is wrong, as it has no another, but a new mac actually)

      mac update method2: same starting point, but i only use mouse click to the end of the field, without selection of any char i use backspace, for like 1 char, and type another char instead of the deleted one. here NO additional mac field comes to existence. why? if i change the mac any method i want to change it, not add a new one (i will make test with it, maybe this way it will disappear somehow)

      EDIT: sorry, somehow i did not notice what you wrote before me.

      @Tom-Elliott

      What do you mean by maybe incorrect image path? images havent changed location. Those files are there since months. From creation up to now.

      Please tell me about the second option. I must admit that maybe i am underinformed about the need of imaging. New disc comes in (unboxed, etc, installed into box, cables, etc etc). Does it need to have preset partiotion table to deploy images onto it? I mean up to now i was not aware if it is a must before new image come to deployed.

      Please tell me what do you mean by that you told.

      You may be right. For me collecting informations about image creating statistics, doing automation about storage spaces can be done after new images came alive. I can manage it elsewhere, just was wondering if post-upload scripting is possible somehow 🙂

      @Wayne-Workman

      Er… during your post I was trying to find a better way to describe why was 2 different post, and tried to state better what I wanted. Sorry again for being a bit confusing. Pls read what I wrote now. Anyway, p4p1 thing you suggested is a bit more dangerous than you may wanted 😄 It is like killing a moskito with gunship, full power. It will kill, but… well, a bit more damage than wanted. 🙂

      My problem maybe originated that some things can be configured on the web ui, but sometimes config information is kept in different location which is ok if I dont want to reconfigure “all things” after setup. It is hard to be done if I dont know where to make changes (ip addresses are located in many places, but in config files duplicated, cannot be modified from webui. This makes things harder for debugging.
