RE: new fog appliance
I actually find it relatively fast and simple to spin up a new FOG server.
Use the Turnkey Linux LAMP stack found here. (A headless Debian 8 base, with pre-installed support tools; Webmin, Adminer database management web app, Web based command line terminal)
My quick install notes may be of use for someone
EDIT: It may be worth speaking to the team at TurnkeyLinux.org

RE: new server build and Downloading inits, kernels and client fails
SOLVED!!
After trying to download the client I now have the FOG Server set up after getting https://github-cloud.s3.amazonaws.com unblocked by our provider LGFL (along with the below four links from yesterday)
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/freeghost/InitList/init.xz
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/freeghost/InitList/init_32.xz
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/freeghost/KernelList/bzImage
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/freeghost/KernelList/bzImage32Thanks all
EDIT: 2017-05-29
For Client: https://github-production-release-asset-2e65be.s3.amazonaws.com
For Dev/working branches

Thanks,
I know I can browse to the github from my work laptop. But will check the fog client links from the server first thing

RE: new server build and Downloading inits, kernels and client fails
No proxy is used in that sense, sorry should have said. But our internet feed is restricted when compared to what you would have at your house for example.
just to add that I am able to download Current Init’s and Kernels from the Command Line
wget http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/freeghost/InitList/init.xz
wget http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/freeghost/InitList/init_32.xz
wget http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/freeghost/KernelList/bzImage
wget http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/freeghost/KernelList/bzImage32without being able to see what stage it gets to (if any), would I be right to assume it fails on the client download?
(I have now also switched to Debian 8 as this is what I use in my home lab for FOG)

RE: new server build and Downloading inits, kernels and client fails
we do not have direct access to the internet as we go through our local authority/London Grid for Learning
nslookup fogproject.org does resolve

new server build and Downloading inits, kernels and client fails
Hi all,
A new
CentOS 7(now Debian 8 using the Turnkey Linux LAMP stack) server setup and when running the latest trunk installer [r5113] it fails on ‘Downloading inits, kernels and client’I have seen this issue in the forum during my browsing but unable to resolve, I have rerun the installer as i have seen it stated that the sometimes this would fail but then be ok…
also I did see a thread the other day about downloading the inits manually as a test however I seem unable to find it.
thanks

RE: is it possible to Edit Full Host Registration Script?
when I said we I meant as in my office lol, but that’s great thanks. I shall take a look at this in the week

is it possible to Edit Full Host Registration Script?
I did a forum search but I see Tom said it takes quite a bit of work to do. https://forums.fogproject.org/topic/4819/edit-full-host-registration-script
I was wondering if we could change the default answers on Image Now and join AD to Y from N, as we always join domain and Image when using the Full Host registration
Thanks

RE: Latest Development FOG
Love the email addition, I currently have a line in my post deployment script that calls blat and sends an email before the shutdown command.
Thanks Tom and Lee

RE: Help With A FOG Server VM
So what your saying is don’t ask here, we won’t help? I mean thats what it sounds like, I asked here because and correct me if i’m wrong didn’t .32 come in a VM for testing. I made the leap that maybe someone here would be able to help as I have not had luck asking on other sites. I get, use the newest version or Fusion really isn’t good for that kind of stuff. No real answers and no real want to help.
I just want to chime in here and say that I don’t believe this is what VincentJ was implying. But rather asking if you had gone down the route of asking on the vmware forums for help with the vmware product in question. Much like you would ask here on the FOG forum with anything relating to the FOG system. (as you have said and as we know it is not really a FOG question but rather fusion)
also to add to that I believe one of the best resources on the net for IT in the general and specific term is http://community.spiceworks.com/ and I guarantee you will have a worthy response.
now I have not used fusion but have you seen
http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1001934
http://timesinker.blogspot.co.uk/2011/01/shrinking-linux-virtual-disks-on-osx.htmlare you using a thin provisioned disk, or pre-allocated? Once we know that you can than determine if it is some sort of issue with thin provisioning and your linux install or if it was built on a pre-allocated vmdk you will need to convert it i guess

Hi Frank,
You should see the number in the cloud in the upper left of the web page

RE: Determining which multicast client is the bottleneck?
no, I believe not.
I personally prefer and stick to unicasting as I have experienced as you have that a dodgy network connection (cable/nic) or a dying HD can bring the process to a halt.
With the ability of FOG to que the rest of a group and the speed when unicasting a lab I can set a unicast job per room and not have to keep an eye on the process like I did when trialing multicasting a few years back.
