I have followed this through step by step on a virtual machine. I have made the image and captured the image in fog. I then setup a different VM and registered it in FOG. I deployed the image to the new machine. When the machine boots after the image is copied I get a Windows Boot Manager error.

      Any ideas where to start?
your virtual machine hard drives are set to IDE?

Dell Client Configuration Utility lets you create a stand-alone executable package that can configure BIOS, update BIOS, or capture BIOS settings inventory data. The executable package can be run as a stand-alone package or used with enterprise software deployment tools.
cheers, i’ll check that out tomorrow. My BIOS is already password protected though?

    • RE: Better Task Deployment

I like it the way it is to be honest, I build a single base image in a VIrtual Machine, snapshot it, upload it. roll back to snapshot, update, snapshot, upload. Takes minutes to update image. And only have one for all machines.

my image always rolls out fully updated, renames (as per name in FOG), and joins domain.
well, the thing is, it works just fine, but the server gets slammed and we loose all contact with it, and the ram usage goes through the roof!
could the kernel have something to do with it?
      the fog kernel I mean?
      thank you again.
I have never come across this myself, you may be best starting a new thread, maybe more people can chime in with help

    • RE: Deployment Freezes

yes you can have multiple kernels, if that field is blank the host will default to the kernel you have set as bzImage

here is a quote from another thread http://fogproject.org/forum/threads/fog_0-32-on-ubuntu-12-04.831/#post-3877
nope, you need to add it like this… Host Kernel: fog/kernel/<name_of_kernel>
all those with blank fields will default to the kernel you have set as bzImage

Note: In the screenshot below the kernel is called acer-aspire

have you tried the 3.4.1 kernel?
well, we have a ubuntu 10.04 server. and we have a ubuntu 10.04 storage server with tftp and pxe abilities thanks to the guide on the fog wiki and I included dhcp in that so that we could get it to work on a different network.
we are using currently some optiplex 760 and 740 computers and are going to be upgrading to optiplex 790s here soon.
      thanks
• RE: DHCP and our existing router
You could disable DHCP on your router and build/configure a stand-alone DHCP server out of any spare computer you might have. I did mine using Linux Mint. That said, I believe their is a way to build/use the fog server has a DHCP server.
Yes when installing fog just select y when asked about dhcp .

You might find installing webmin helpful too

    • RE: Anyone have a 3.4 kernel to hand?

tbh i’m not quite sure lol, I know it has vmware ISCSI support and is just a maintenance release of astrouga’s 3.4 really

Linux kernel 3.4.1 includes mostly updated drivers, a few ARM, PowerPC, x86, and SPARC fixes, and other small improvements related to wireless networking and SELinux.
