A quick update, it was decided to release FOG 0.33 at the end of February.
Hopefully there will be an RC released soon for testing.
Hi;

Just wanted to ask if there could be another update on the state of .33. Thanks!

Most of the core basic functions work (imaging etc) for all O/Ses with the exception of NTFS Re-sizable partitions.

With the latest updates (about a week ago, all in init.gz) these options work as intended, but there are still some bugs to work out with advanced format drives.

Right now I’m doing a lot of testing to get it all working - this eats up a lot of time waiting for Windows in VM on my slow ass workstation 😛

Various GUIs need their POST save functions ported from the old code. i.e. FOG Configuration page

I’ve devoted today to FOG dev, we will see what happens 🙂

Greetings!

First things first, my many thanks for all the awesomeness you have pumped into FOG! It is leaps and bounds above Symantec’s Ghost Solution Suite!

My second question is: with all the changes to the code base, will there be an upgrade path from .32? Just trying to plan ahead for either a migration or a clean install.

I will not ask about when .33 will be out. I think we all know (or we should all know) about how real work trumps project work.

As far as donations go, is there a way to donate equipment or is cash the preferred method?

Thanks again!!!
-Tim

I’ll second the offer for equipment donation. Of course the approval process here has certain requirements, but if it is something that you might be interested in, let us know. I’d be happy to see if we can get a spare machine to you.

This for me is the biggest need right now. I have a lot! of workstations that have those drives in them that run windows xp but i need to get them updated to windows 7 before the end of this year. Granted this should have be done quite sometime ago but now it’s on me to get it done with FOG being my tool of choice it’s been pain point when someone need to re-image and whoops advanced format drive

Fog 1.5.9 running currently on all servers

The current version of FOG works with Windows 7 & advanced format drives as intended.

Great question.

There will be an upgrade path for all versions of FOG. Ive slowly been working on the schemaupdater so you can run it from any version and it will upgrade you to the latest.

This being said, 0.33’s database structure is incompatible with 0.32. This means once you upgrade to 0.33, your data will be forever changed and will not be able to go back to 0.32.

Thank you everyone for the offer of equipment. But, I’d rather pay my own way 🙂

Last week i got all my penny’s together and upgraded. I got a nice baby Xeon E3-1230-V2, which should do the job nicely.

It’s hasn’t worked for me i get the error that says “can’t have partition outside the disk”. I created a thread http://fogproject.org/forum/threads/cant-have-partition-outside-the-disk.96/ some time ago on that and that was the reason i put off my windows 7 deployment. If you have some procedure that i haven’t tried please pass it on cause nothing is working for me

Throwing out a suggestion…what about when you say have 1 image…you go through some problems with the image you built or need to add updates to it and such…you delete the image and readd it, and then the image id=7 instead of 1…the current build doesn’t automatically go back, it just keeps going higher and higher.

Technically that isn’t a suggestion, more of an observation based on your understanding and experiences. 🙂

And, this isn’t the forum or thread for suggestions in the first place. There are feature requests and help forums.

As for your post:
You don’t delete the original image when you update it.

Sequence should be:

1. make original image
2. upload
3. use it

When you are ready to update the image, you:
4. Deploy to correct hardware
5. update
6. upload

This overwrites the original image with the updated one, keeping the image id numbers the same.

There is no official release date. The code is coming along but many things have changed and need to be tested. If you can download the svn codebase and begin testing and reporting bugs, there is a thread in the developers forum area. Read it first so you know what’s already been reported and what needs testing.

I just registered to say that all of us here at Mars Area School District are super appreciative of what you guys do. I’m excited for 0.33, 0.32 has been serving us well for quite some time now.

What about adding the ability to have fog change its IP address once it is cloned, and added to the domain, and snap-ins deployed? We have several locations on a WAN and don’t want it talking back to us.
