    Hi,

We have problems that the FOG Client does not change the hostname on a computer running windows 10.
Is there any special settings we need to add to the installation, or is this functionality simply not working on win10?

    We run FOG server: 1.2.0
    Windows 10 Pro 64bit

    Best Regards,

The legacy client (which comes with 1.2.0) was built for XP and is not windows 10 compatible. For windows 10 support (including imaging) please either wait for 1.3.0 or upgrade now to 1.3.0 release candidate 2.

You will then need to install the new client (v0.11.4) which has windows 10 support.

@Joe-Schmitt I have had Fog V1.2 update hostnames on some machines, but not others. On some older Dell laptops it worked OK, but on an HP laptop, I am having issues. When will the stable version of 1.3 be ready?

@Tim-Reynolds As far as a stable version if it is a RC it is pretty stable. I am running RC4 right now and everything seems fine. That being said @TOM ELLIOTT keeps things pretty tight and I think we are getting really close to the full release but I will let him make that call.

I use the SVN upgrade procedure here: https://wiki.fogproject.org/wiki/index.php?title=Upgrade_to_trunk

I would make a backup (or snapshot if available) before upgrading though.

@Psycholiquid My Fog server is on Ubuntu 10.04. Will that make any difference?

IT might, There is a thread around where someone made a new server and migrated the data over. I would go that route if you have the time. Let me see if I can find it.

@Tim-Reynolds I’d highly recommend upgrading to at least Ubuntu 14.04, then running the update.

@Tom-Elliott OK. Will do. You’re talking about the SVN update after the 14.04 update, correct?

@Tom-Elliott My 10.04 errors when trying to upgrade. It is saying it can’t find us.archive.ubuntu.com. Should I build a new server and try to migrate everything to it?

@Tim-Reynolds I would with that big of a jump there are to many variables to worry about.

@Psycholiquid Is it hard migrating all Fog data to the new server?

@Tim-Reynolds Not real sure never done it, I cant see it being to hard. But with the version switching you are doing I cant be certain.

I would not recommend upgrading a Linux distribution to a newer one. I’ve gone through it before and am less than impressed. I personally would always build a new server from scratch. But, to each their own.

Migrating data from fog isn’t overly difficult. There are a lot of places where the IP is stored, and where usernames and passwords are stored. You’d just need to hunt through all the settings and change all those. Here’s a guide:

For future readers - FOG 1.2.0 has poor support for Windows 10, and the legacy fog client that comes with FOG 1.2.0 isn’t supported on Windows 10.

To gain full support for Windows 10, GPT disks, UEFI, newer nvme type disks, SSD disks, and numerous other hardware support to include Surface Pros, and better support for non-standard partition layout, along with incredible performance improvements, new features, and security benefits,

Please install the latest FOG 1.3.0 Release Candidate, and use the new FOG Client that comes with it.
