My latest test with 0.33b r1140
After entering a host and selecting a Hardware Inventory, the inventory seems to get right upto the end and then after it starts trying to update the host database it gets ‘Invalid MAC Address’. The MAC is correct.
I was unable to kill the task to do another because the inventory didnt complete and when i try to enter the tasks page i get the following error displayed twice.
FOG DEBUG: Host Database Load Failed: ID 0, Error: Row not found
The List All Hosts page seems to have lost the hostname of the PC I inventoried, and only displays the MAC address. Can’t edit or destroy the host either.
PC rename is working during imaging in Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit.
Host registration via the boot menu works.

Getting much closer to a production deployable system.

it does warn that if you set a password… you need to set it in one of the config files so fog will actually work… it is the users choice to have a password or not.

I’ll do another test, but the last one none of the installed clients would change a hostname. This isn’t the early change, this is the fog client doing it.
Question should the host name changer and joining a domain work by default?
Any word on the early hostname change for windows 7 or the client being made to change the hostname again?
(Been a couple of weeks since my last test so a bit out dated.)

• RE: FOG Server Communications Issues

I use PFsense as my routers, and all but one of my installations of FOG are virtual.

Definitely use bridged mode, I use virtualbox but VMware player/workstation should work similarly.

For 0.32 Iuse Ubuntu (as it was what I always used at the time) I now use Debian for 0.33b and it’s lovely on ym test network.

About the boot logo, you can also customize this to show your corp/school logo.

with sysprep… at work it names the machine NewDeploy and then the fog client changes the name to whatever is needed. Depending on when the unattend.xml sets the hostname doing it early may or may not work. I would have to research it.

Is there any chance of fixing the FOG client? At least then there is a solution that works with windows 7 (and probably 8).

• RE: Latest FOG 0.33b

other than letting you remote into my test setup so you can look under the hood, i’m at a loss other than the server isn’t giving the client a hostname to change to… or the client isn’t looking in the right places. how is your test with the early hostname changer and windows 7 going?

doesn’t mean much to me, there is a ton of log in there…

• RE: Latest FOG 0.33b

It is globally enabled and enabled on the host. I was thinking a change in database might be the cause due to ‘Hostname not found in the database’

I know the database from 0.33 isn’t compatible with 0.32… has this variable been moved/renamed.

My client OS is Windows 7 Enterprise 64.

how many vCPUs does the VM that is uploading have?
What is running your DHCP service for the VMs? I always have pfsense to run DHCP on my test networks, never tried the internal one.

• RE: Several Fog Issues

Compression might be hurting your upload… Depending on how many vCPUs are on your guest. And if your SSD is sandforce based it will get it’s speed boost by using compression… I get similar speeds to you with 1 normal HDD in my test server.

What hypervisor are you using? I use ESXi and Virtualbox. ESXi needs IDE devices (possibly not needed anymore on 0.33b) and virtualbox works out of the box for me.

Something I’ve noticed… When you make a host the client settings are all off.

The Rename early still isn’t renaming my machines. and the fog service seems to be giving an error.

Could one of the changes in the database mean the client is looking in the wrong place?

It seems that the buttons on the GUI are missing… possibly something to do with the new language stuff.

When I installed I selected not to install language packs.

• RE: Latest FOG 0.33b

When I setup, I pre-stage all the host’s MAC addresses into fog. I then add them to a group and start the deploy task using the group. The only thing I do on the client machine is turn it on.

This matches how I setup my production setup where we used the DHCP leases to identify the MAC of every PC and then had one of the trainees set the PCs to PXE boot. When we buy new machines, the MAC is written on the box so I enter those as well and as soon as they are unpacked and plugged in… they run the task that I created for them.

I will nuke my Debian FOG server and remake it with r1054 and try again.
