Would be great if that could be added. Tom has been on IRC for the past few days. Do you have an equivalent for the client to put in the hostname etc for MAC OS?

Hopefully the NFS updates work for everyone
If you have before and after numbers for speed that would be brilliant.
More ideas incoming…

RE: New to this whole thing -- Not quite sure what I'm doing wrong.
indeed… DHCP protection could be stopping you.

ask your IT staff, could be their setup

you say you have no control over the network… did you have the DHCP options put into the campus DHCP server?
What sort of PC is it that you are trying to boot? new/old?
What OS are you trying to install?
Have you managed to upload your image to the server?
are you just deploying 1 PC or many? -
RE: FOG Post-Image Tasks without Client
aren’t you required to setup the windows PCs to do the OOBE for your clients?
why not just drop the file in the image?
You could use your sysprep to run a file once -
RE: BTSync
join the btsync and try it
from what I’ve been told it’s not a drop in upgrade from 0.32 to 0.33b

RE: BTSync
It’s becoming much more stable than it used to be, but Tom is waiting for Chuck to sort out an actual release.
I’m wanting a stable releasable version too… eventually if the beta just gets more and more stable we can just use that…

RE: New to imaging via Fog
I have a 150+ PC network and questions are welcome.
here or PM or Skype. phone would be dependant on timezones…

RE: Latest FOG 0.33b
It just depends how valuable client branding is to others who use the project.
for me the menu could be completely removed and it would work well for me. I always use the web gui to make tasks and I pre-register hosts. having the interface on the client just means people can click buttons and call it to find out why they have a black screen with a flashing thing on it…
An auto register thing might work, but how do you keep track of machines etc that are naming themselves. I use my DHCP leases when I initially setup.

RE: Latest FOG 0.33b
usually i’ll put my clients logo in the PXE image.
having a configurable banner might work… or you could have the option to completely disable the menu on the client so they can not hit their keyboard and get stuck on the menu. in previous versions the hide menu only hides it as long as they don’t touch anything on the PC.

RE: Latest FOG 0.33b
how easy it is to add a configurable image as the background to iPXE?

RE: IPXE vs. PXE
Can we get a released stable 0.33b before we start running on too big a project. 0.32 is getting old enough that it doesn’t work on some brand new systems out of the box. maybe this for 0.34

RE: Latest FOG 0.33b
Just finishing a few tests but looking good so far.
Upload and Deploy are working for me, including renaming early.
I even have my test setup running over two sites connected via VPN.With the setup of multiple TFTP servers… the pxelinux.cfg directory needs to be mounted from the master server… however if my VPN goes down the clients no longer successfully boot. They error because the files are missing.
Would you suggest it is better to NFS mount the TFTPboot directory instead of the pxelinux.cfg so that if the VPN is down the clients just error out and boot from their next set device? Or could it be setup in another way so that it works with multiple TFTP servers without an NFS mount.
Only slight annoyance is the replication service doesn’t seem to do anything on it’s own. needs a manual restart to work. might be an idea to maybe have it configurable or got rid of since there could be better solutions for those using many sites and those on one site with a storage server could just use rsync or something simple.

RE: Latest FOG 0.33b
wouldn’t dd work for imaging a dual boot system? big image… but it’s a special case not many people may have, especially nowadays with virtualization.

RE: Latest FOG 0.33b
15 days? you must have a very slow network if it’s taking that long…

RE: What do you have FOG running on?
I use Virtual Machines… I have pfsense controlling DHCP and FOG on Ubuntu within ESXi
