PXE Boot with Dell Latitude 7390v

@msaglioc99 We have numerous people using USB network adapters to boot devices like tablets and so on. Probably some USB C adapter should work. But be aware that it needs drivers in the Dell BIOS/UEFI firmware to be able to PXE boot from a USB adapter. Easier said than done as there is usually no information about this available.

So you can either start buying different adapters and test to see which is working or you can ask Dell to tell you. If you find one there is still a big hurdle to take because PXE booting also means iPXE and Linux kernel needs to have a driver. From experience we know what more often than not drivers are available within iPXE/kernel! But we do see issues with buggy firmware from time to time that prevents from PXE booting even though.

Just for your information, it is possible but I guess you need to start trying it out and see what you get. Let us know if you get stuck at some point and we will try to help you!

@sebastian-roth Just tested RC 9. The host doesn’t show up in the pending MACs report, but does show up in the ‘list all’ in Host Management, but is unapproved at that point. Clicking a little link towards the top of it’s general page will approve it.

So, from what I’m seeing, the pending MACs list has something wrong with it, but the auto-registration is working.

      Hey,

i was remote on the system and we installed the current RC (switched to dev branch).
Helped him out with some sysprep lines, added to stop fog service, set it to disabled and so on.

Seemed to work well but he still has a problem with the dell’s 7050’s but i have the feeling we have that spanning tree problem like here:
      https://forums.fogproject.org/topic/10512/dell-optiplex-7050-fails-to-pxe-boot

This is what he gets when trying an 7050:

      Bild Text

The op will ask his network admin for a check, i suggested to connect fog and the client with a dump switch and then to the environment. This is not done yet.

The initial problem with the dell 7050’s isn’t solved yet!
@msaglioc99 any chance to give the thread subject a better name (subject) about the problem?

      Regards X23

@msaglioc99 Reading through the PDF I found this link:
      http://support.bluebeam.com/articles/enterprise-installation/

On the right side another PDF is linked called Enterprise Installation Guide. Check this out. On page number 9 (12 in the PDF) you find information on the MSI command line switches.

@msaglioc99 To test, open a linux command prompt on your FOG server. Key in ping <host_name> to test.

The dns server settings are in /etc/resolv.conf file. If you are using the Network Manager application to manage network profiles then you would edit it there.

But in my case this is what my resolv.conf file might look like.

      domain mydomain.com search mydomain.com subdomain.mydomain.com otherdomain.com nameserver 192.168.100.6 nameserver 192.168.100.8
