That will get messy when I have more than 16 stations, but that sounds like it is what I need, thanks!

So I figured it out. Capone adds an option to the PXE boot menu, which is great, but my menu is not stock, and the automatic entry it adds was failing. Fix that and it boots fine.

So, it is possible to set Capone to use a different NFS/TFTP/Web server if you want to. The script calls on what is defined in the PXE boot option, not what FOG uses for settings.

I’m still tossing this idea around for my FOG server, I’m not exactly convinced on it yet. We kind of want to go the whole “Golden image” route from the sound of things, I prefer just setting up individual images per device (but I only manage 7 different devices so this makes it easier).

Keep us posted on what you come up with I love to see what the community is doing with their fog servers and the mods they put in place!

      Hello,

I was reading you thread and from reading your initial post and the post where you state FOG “does not multicast” I believe I might have an idea of what’s happening to you.

First, are you starting multiple individual images? If so, this means each PC is going to access the image on the fog server independently, hitting your disks harder and slowing the transfer with each additional PC.

Secondly, you CAN multicast. Here’s how:

Add the machines you want to image into inventory.
Create a group and place the machines you want to image into that group.
      Go to TASK MANAGEMENT.
      LIST ALL GROUPS
You’ll see the multicast option next to the group you want to image.
Set the CRON settings, shutdown, etc., and hit submit the job.

I hope I’m not totally off base, but I did this in the past and had the same reaction. “WOW this is too slow!” “I used ghost and it was soo much faster!” etc,.

Let me know if it helps.

You tell it the DMI field to key on and which image to push based on that DMI value.
