• RE: Surface Pro 3 PXE:

I’ve tried doing this…

I first tried with the 32 bit and it flashed up saying downloading NBP File very quickly then moved onto IPv6 before continuing to load up Windows…

I then tried using the 64 bit version, again it came up with Downloading NBP file and appeared to be doing a little more then the 32 bit version, but then it continued to load up Windows!!

What else can I try??!?!?

Thanks

Thanks - will try this tomorrow when I’m back in work.

If I manage to get it working, will this then boot up the fog menu or will I need to enter some command in the iPXE shell to load fog? If so, what will I need to enter?

Thanks

• RE: Surface Pro 3 PXE:

Morning,

I’ve tried again using the modified ipxe.efi file created from the website - When I set that as the bootfile and boot up the Surface Pro 3 I get…

Checking Media Presence…
Media Present…
Start PXE over IPv4

It flicks then to saying

Downloading NBP file… (this appears for a second or two)

Then moves onto

Checking Media Presence…
Media Present…
Start PXE over IPv6

Before continuing to boot up the Surface Pro 3.

I don’t get any Fog Menu

Thanks

Matt

Thanks - I’ll give this another shot - but I tried this a few days back after reading your earlier post and couldn’t get it to work!

I’m really sorry Tom, are you able to guide me to what I should be doing exactly to achieve what you say. I’m not too familiar with the background workings of Linux.

Thanks

OK,

I originally tried using the ipxe.efi which failed to boot the surface to the fog menu,

I then tried the snp.efi which booted to a very basic looking menu, I tried to register the host and I get the message:-

i8042: Can’t read CTR while initializing i8042
usb usb2-port1: couldn’t allocate usb_device
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(1,0)
Kernel Offset: 0x0 from 0xffffffff81000000 (relocation range: 0xffffffff80000000-0xffffffff9fffffff)
—[ end of Kernal panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount fs on unknown-block(1,0)

I’ve also tried changing the bootfile to snponly.efi and get the same error as above.

Thanks

Just tried with the file supplied in the link and it still won’t boot to the Fog menu - I get downloading NBP? File…

Then blips saying successful and then continues to load up Windows.

• RE: Surface Pro 3 PXE:

Did you manage to get the surface’s to boot into FOG using the official Microsoft USB LAN Adaptor or only the docking station?

I’ve created a modified EFI Bootfile as mentioned above and added it into the tftpboot folder on the fog server, and changed the boot file to use in DHCP, but I can’t get it to boot up into Fog.

It loads up the PXE boot very quickly and a message about downloading an image but then it goes and continues to load up the surface into Windows.

Thanks

• RE: Surface Pro 3 PXE:

I’m about to deploy 40 Surface Pro 3 devices into the school I work at - so I’m glad I’ve picked up on this thread - We have purchased only 1 Microsoft USB Surface LAN Adaptor - Will we have issue within FOG - as potentially every Surface will have the same MAC address - or do we only configure 1 of the surfaces within the console and then use this same machine in FOG to deploy to all the Tablets that are using the same USB LAN Connector?

Thanks

I am certain - the disk’s have all come from the same place - and I have NEVER had to partition them first before I can download the image from FOG.

• RE: Fog 1.0.1 - Can't deploy image

Success!!!
I added a partition to the hard drive and it worked (only that the first message said it was not a partclone image, so I changed it back to PartDisk and the image has restored.

My only question is now - WHY?? Why have I had create a new partition on the disk first before it would work, I’ve done this 100’s of times under 0.33 (and 0.32) and I’ve NEVER had to perform that step first, everything just “worked” when I deployed the image.

Thanks very much

• RE: Fog 1.0.1 - Can't deploy image

The disk is brand new out the box - so no partition - I’m not doing anything different with it to what I’ve done when using 0.33.

We have a setup of 50 Tablet PC’s…

I get a new disk, install it in the machine which had a faulty disk, I go into Fog UI, select the client/host that has the new hard drive installed and deploy (download) the image to the client, the client (under 0.33) would then boot from the network - load up the cloning screen (blue screen - % bar) then after about 4 minutes would reboot and I would get the System Setup screen following a sysprep of the image.

This has work without issue under 0.33 for the last couple of years, but I can’t get it to do a thing now on 1.0.1

Hi Tom,

OK my server has only a /var/lib/tftpboot folder BUT does not have any files inside of it… where will I find a copy of the correct default.ipxe to put inside of it?

I’m hoping that this will then fix the issue?!?

Thanks

• RE: 040ee119 error on boot

Hi,

Another day, another bash at trying to get this working again…

I’ve replaced the files in the tftpboot folder with the files in the above link, and when I PXE boot from the client now I get IP Address etc (as before) it shows as version iPXE 1.0.0+ (d630) I get a message saying configuring … OK
then I get

/defaut.ipxe… No such file or directory

and just sits there

Any thoughts?

Cheers

Matt

Bit of a noob on this - but do I just literally download the files that are provided in the link and replace them with the files that are in the boot folder? or is there something else I should do?

• RE: FOG 1.0.1 - client doesn't get the FOG boot menu.

I’ve changed my image to be partclone rather then partimage in the Image Management interface of the UI as the image was created on an earlier build of FOG.
