    • Rolling Reboot -- FOG Client AD issue

      @Developers
      @Joe-Schmitt

      Wed Jul 27, 2016 12:55 pm
      Running Version 1.3.0-RC-4
      SVN Revision: 5941

      I am having a very strange issue with my Hosts joining the domain. I am now using a sysprepped image and am updating AD. I have created a SetupComplete script that runs the FOG service re-activation prior to installing AV and prior to driver injection as my current image is a Windows 7 Universal image.

      Currently the issue I’ve run into is that some machines get stuck in a reboot cycle and that particular machine’s active task never finishes in FOG. The machine physically finishes but the task never ends. It appears that the FOG client is the culprit for restarting the machine.

      The host name on the machine changes (sometimes) but it never adds itself to AD. When you try and add it manually, it gives you the “Welcome to the Domain” message but it never finalizes the add process. In other words it reboots, than it goes back into reboot hell.

      This happens on about 1 out of 5 machines in a multi task group.

      A side issue that is somewhat related is that most hosts add successfully, but some will rename correctly but fail to join AD. About 1 in 5 do this as well.

      TIA!

      Cheers!

    • RE: AD Add Question

      All of the hardware is identical the same. It appears that the service is logging the host off and rebooting as if it were to add it to the AD, but that never happens. I watched it reboot 4 times and I’m sure it has done many more.

      I guess the only thing that is different is that I added two snappins to this batch. But everything else is constant.

      This is very strange! The hosts are in a reboot loop and the task is not clearing out of the “Active Tasks” list. Don’t know what’s going on. This image has not changed a bit. All the other hosts I’ve done so far today have gone fine.

      Any ideas?

      Also Tom, I’ve left it still running. If you want to remote in and take a peek, PM me and we can set that up.

      @Tom-Elliott I do not know if the original task did not complete or not on the server but each host did ON the individual machine.

      So to update you on this… I have a new batch of hosts that each completed ON the machine but the task manager shows them still running.

      I had created a multi cast task to deploy an image to a few machines. This group of hosts had a few snapins to deploy among other things, after the image was pushed to them. The multi cast task appeared to remain on the list after the partclone finished and the machines had been rebooted. Although to me, it actually appeared that it was a new task because the task bar was not complete.

      I don’t know what was happening there… I didn’t give my hosts long enough to register with the fog service. Things are working like normal. But I still don’t know what the other tasks were that appeared on my task manager…

      Carry on!

    • AD Add Question

      Wed Jul 27, 2016 9:18 am
      Running Version 1.3.0-RC-4
      SVN Revision: 5941

      I noticed that while doing a multi cast session, that after the main partclone was complete and the system was finishing up the final touches with the OS setupcomplete script, that their appeared to be a new task in the task manager for these hosts.

      Is this something new in the RC-4 release? Or is this normal. I deleted those tasks because I was scared that they were something else and now those hosts aren’t joining AD automatically. LOL!

      Any ideas?

      @Developers

      I was performing a multi cast session on two seperate small groups. One group is proceeding just fine; the other group failed after the partclone session started. The following screen shot shows the error.

      I looked for /var/log/partclone.log files on both the server and fog node and they do not exist.

      Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

      @Tom-Elliott

      Well I managed to get this working again…

      Here is what I ended up doing… I upgraded to latest Trunk release (Running Version 1.3.0-RC-4 SVN Revision: 5941) and re-tried doing my multi task… It would not even start a partclone session. The log showed that no tasks were scheduled. It did, however, refresh better this time.

      I stopped and started the service on both the Fog Node and the Fog Server. Than I cleared the mysql database. Voila! Things are happy!

      I did notice that the multitask log file is logging things better now. I’ll be using this the rest of the week pretty heavily. I’ll keep you posted if things change!

      Thanks Tom!!

      Well, I tried running a Multi-task this evening and it hung at the Partclone screen. I did not reset the database prior to trying the Multi-task. I’ll be around tomorrow from
      7 AM - 5:30 PM MST. I’m going to update/upgrade to the latest SVN release tonight. But this post is after updating to Running Version 1.3.0-RC-2 SVN Revision: 5937.

      @george1421
      I"m betting it’s the order in which the script performs it’s tasks. I have the fog client reactivation set at the very end of the script. I’ll try adjusting the script and re-imaging.

      This image is being used on identical hardware for this test.

      @JoeG I have debated on just installing AV with a plugin. We’ve installed it with group policy in the past. It does work that way.

      We have had a multitude of issues this summer and I’m trying to just get things ironed out on the last part of my installs before the school year starts next month. I’ve been thrown into the role of network admin after many years of being out of the tech world and I"ve been trying to learn the “proper” way of doing things.

      Thanks for all of the advice!!! I appreciate the help!

      Cheers,

      Joe

      No new revelations on this front?

      I’ll be gone until Monday… I’ve been able to do unicasting but I’d love to get multicasting working because I’m way behind. Thanks!

      George, I added that script to my SetupComplete file and I’m not having any luck. My service isn’t starting back up.

      I ran script commands on their own and that works from the command prompt. But when I run a script file with those commands nothing happens.

      Any ideas?
