    • RE: FOG Server High CPU

      Hi,

      some info about this, actually my “poor” server is drowned by the high use of mysql. We have noticed the start of the new academic year and the computer are waking up 😞

      Now the mysql consumes the 300% of the CPU, we have 8 vcore in the server.

      # mysqladmin status;

      Is possible have the mysql server out of the fog server, use an external instance?

    • RE: Site Plugin

      @Wayne-Workman I agree with you, and it is a little confusing.

      But the philosophy of Location plugin is different.
      From https://wiki.fogproject.org/wiki/index.php?title=Location_Plugin:

      The location plugin is for use in multi-node fog setups that have a large distance or limited amount of bandwidth between each node’s network. The location plugin allows you to restrict a host’s storage node selection when imaging or other tasks occur.

      At first I tried to use Location plugin to do the filters in the searches, and worked well but the Locations have limitations. The big one is that you can only define one location per storage node 🙂 And I need more granularity. In my case I have one storage node to manage 7000 hosts in 50 buildings with 60 technicians. I don’t need the Location plugin but I need the Site plugin.

      We could extend the scope of Location plugin and rewrite the plugin 😉

      Hello @neiliob1973 ,

      which version of dnsmasq are you using? Do you use dnsmasq as proxy?

      Some info about this problem:

    • RE: High RAM, CPU and 'Too Many Processes' mainly when running reports

      Some reports, like “imaging log”, don’t have pre filters and try to show all the entries in the database, normally you have a lot of entries in the database and the server doesn’t have memory to run it.

      In the dev-branch, not stable branch, I made some changes in the reports to have some pre-filters, with these pre-filters you can limit more the search parameters and be more exhaustive and use less memory 😉

      @Fernando-Gietz Ok then - but perhaps a different name then? How about “Site Control” similarly named after “Access Control”.

      Yes, is a good idea. I need change somethings in the code … rename all clases XD

      I have installed fog under RHEL 7 and the installation script doesn’t detect well the OS.
      To solve it, please change the lib/commons/input.sh line 24:

      14500 computers in the database are a lot of. I had troubles in the past when I tried to list my 8000 computers, this was solved with the php-fpm module but maybe in you case the problem is other (timeouts in the database or used memory)

      Any error in the apache logs?

    • RE: Site Plugin

      Well I have finished the beta version, you can test it from the last RC version (1.4.0-RC12).

      What does the site plugin do?
      The site plugin allows you to restrict/control the access and the searches of hosts to one or more sites. When you associate one user to a site, this user only can see the hosts which are linked/located to this site. This plugin restricts the access to hosts in the task menu too, the user only can see the tasks of his hosts.

      Brief operation instructions

      1. Install the plugin
      2. Go to Site Manager Menu
      3. Create a New Site
        3.1) Enter the site name and his description
      4. Link the hosts to the site. You can do it from the host menu or from group menu
        4.1) From host menu: Enter in the host General tab and select the site from “Associate Host to a site” dropbox
        4.2) From group menu: with this option you can link multiple hosts to one site. Go to the “Site Association” tab and select the site from the dropbox.
      5. Link users to one site
        5.1) Go to Site Manager menu.
        5.2) Search or list the Sites. Choose the site.
        5.3) Go to membership tab
        5.4) Check the checkbox to show the user list
        5.5) Select the users which you want to link to the Site
        5.6) click the “Add User to Site” button
      6. Restrict the access to the users
        6.1) Go to User Menu
        6.2) Search the user and select it. In the list you can see the sites that are inked to the user and if is a restrinc user.
        6.3) Go to General tab
        6.4) If you want to restrict the user, check the “Is restricted user” checkbox
        6.5) Click “Update” button

      I will not drop the msShutdown and msMaxwait columns (I don´t know if in this version are neccesary), I will only add the new columns. Try with this:

      ALTER TABLE multicastSessions
      ADD COLUMN msAnon3 VARCHAR(250) AFTER msNFSGroupID;

      ALTER TABLE multicastSessions
      ADD COLUMN msAnon4 VARCHAR(250) AFTER msAnon3;

      Hola @oliver!

      Es mejor que te expreses en inglés ya que la mayoría de los usuarios de la comunidad de FOG project no sabe hablar español o tiene conocimientos muy pequeños de él.

      Hay dos usuarios fog, uno usuario del sistema linux y otro que es el administrador de la consolo web. son usuarios diferentes con claves diferentes. El usuario fog de linux, llamado fogproject en versiones superiores a la 1.5.5, se encarga de mover y copiar los ficheros de /images usando FTP. La contraseña que aparece en /opt/fog/.fogsettings no está encriptada, parece pero no, es un churro bien largo creado aleatoriamente. Tienes que comprobar que el usuario fog en esa maquina accede con esa contraseña.

      Comprueba que /images2, el directorio, tiene permisos 777 para que el usuario fog de linux pueda acceder a él.

    • RE: Use an external database

      Hi @george1421,

      I tried to do it and worked fine!! You can use an external database changing the both files: /var/www/html/fog/lib/fog/config.class.php adn /opt/fog/.fogsettings.

      snmysqluser='<MySQL_user>'
      snmysqlpass='<password_of_your_MySQL_user>'
      snmysqlhost='<ip_of_your_MySQL_Server>'

      I don’t do any fresh install lastly, then I don’t know if the installer asks you about the location of your MySQL server or by default is always localhost. If the installer is not prepare to use an external database, I will suggest to implement this feature in future versions.

      I want to take advantage of the occasion to say that the mariadb version, 5.5 is obsolete, I updated it to the last stable version the last month, MariaDB 10.3. Maybe will be interesant to update the installer to install this last version of MariaDB.

      Under RedHat 7 the packages are MariaDB-client and MariaDB-server.
