Network Boot Protocol <IPv4 (Legacy)>
Those are my current Settings. Still same issue.

You are more than likely using undionly.kpxe, but if windows is handling your dhcp it would be option 67. You can also rename the old file and symlink the new one.
cd /tftpboot mv undionly.kpxe undionly.kpxe.REAL ln -s undionly.kkpxe undionly.kpxe
Ok now that I understand what you where stating… I tried this and it works
Edit: New issue! lol Now when performing full host registration its hanging there too
/bzImage… ok
/init.xz… ok
[] <— just hangs there
Edit: I noticed that the connectivity lights on the adapter just go dead…

@Dragnous Ask your network guy to change the DHCP scope option 067 to this:
undionly.kkpxe
And let us know how it goes. This is the more simple way of doing what @cml was wanting you to try. I don’t think we can move forward until you’ve tried undionly.kkpxe. It’s the next step in troubleshooting.
Oh maybe I misunderstood, what is difference between undionly.kpxe and undionly.kkpxe ?
Also note sure if this needs to be noted but using linux box as DHCP
Still looking for a solution anyone have any experience with this

What version of Fog and what pxe file are you booting?
Booting off of undionly.kkpxe may resolve your issue.
I was talking with my network guy he said we set it up to undionly.kpxe in DHCP
Latest Version: 1.2.0 fog
not sure on the pxe file. Where do i check this?
Hello all.
We have started to test a new option. We have purchased a ton of laptops (Stream 11 Pro Commercial Grade) from Hp and they have provided us with Pxe bootable USB to Ethernet adapters.
So far it starts to work however when it gets to "iPxe Initialising Devices… " It just hangs there and doesnt go past.
Any thoughts or advice.

Just started with FOG and currently loving it but…
Is there a way to edit the menu so that I can pick a image to load?
I ask this because I have to image about 10 different dell optiplex models. Right now I have a “current” image i use for all new pcs that come in and need to get staged then installed, but we have a pile of older ones I wipe then image. The current ones get a quick reg, then reboot and gest imaged and i love that, but I was wondering if it was possible to boot to a menu where I could select the image from a list of available images. Right now i need to quick reg the old pc, then log into fog, find it in the host list, change its default image reboot old mahcine. I would love to do it all from the client itself.
Thank you!
Since you just started with FOG I understand the confusion…
What you need to do is Perform full host registration and the 2nd input asks which image to specify and from there you can type “?” to see the list and their id numbers.
than at the end will ask if you want to image the machine now just yep Y and when it reboots make sure to Network boot again and it will start the imaging.
Another options is to use the groups.
Do the same setup but when it ask for a group just type ? and find a group you have made and than continue. Once complete just select NO to image machine and once it has rebooted turn the machine off. now you can start a Multicast for that group and now when you network boot it will start the imaging…
Yea hehe. I know they waited to make deviced thinner but damn it they definitely didn’t think about he IT world in terms of deployment.
what they should have done is developed a new Ethernet port that is thinner and than all we would have needed is either an adapter or new connectors.

No.
While technically capable to do imaging over wireless, it’s not a method I want to directly support. If you feel you want to take on that challenge, please do.
Understand, it’s not a very simple thing to do, and nearly impossible to get correct across the board. I suppose in the “future” of fog it is something that we may need to look at, but for now I think it is just too much to try and take on.
Understood, I know i looked into it before and complex it is.
Damn device developers, they just had to stop adding Ethernet ports lol.

So you’re good to go now?
Off topic. has there been any updates on using fog with device that do not have Ethernet Ports ?
I believe so… Thank you for your assistance.

This system is trying to boot via NIC over UEFI/EFI boot. Can you change your bios settings to use “Legacy” or CSM (Compatibility Service Mode)? Rather than PXE Boot IPv4 NIC?
Thank you very much didnt think of that…
Flipped on legacy and at first didn’t work but found that HP set so that F12 is network boot shortcut however doesn’t work with legacy had to hit F9 and select IPV4 legacy in the boot list …
I have previously tried to disable the IPv6 and still same thing… what is odd is that no problem when booting from confined network.
However these pesky HP 215 G1 are pain in the butt heheh
Hey all,
This week Ive installed and setup a new fog box and set it up to be used within our existing network infrastructure ( Now that we have one ).
I was able to pxe boot using a Lenovo B590 ok but when I try to use say a HP 215 G1 i just get this information and than it reboots.
Any help would be grand
There are a lot of different USB to Ethernet adapters out there. But I am pretty sure that not all of them will work.
There is a thing called ECM (Ethernet Control Model) which is one of several different protocols used by those adapters (see here for more information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethernet_over_USB).
Check out this post: http://www.johnwillis.com/2014/03/pxe-booting-using-usb-to-ethernet-dongle.html
Are we talking about this ASUS brand adapter?? https://www.asus.com/Tablet_Mobile_Accessories/USB_Ethernet_Cable/
I found it very hard to find information about this!! Not sure if I’d buy it. I still don’t know which ethernet chip is used and if linux in gernal is happy with it… And it’s not gigabit ethernet, right? I highly recommend looking for other adapters.
We’ve had several people here in the forums. Some got their USB thingys working. Maybe it’s time to add those to this list here too: http://fogproject.org/wiki/index.php/WorkingDevices
EDIT: There is a long (still reading) and interesting thread about USB ethernet adapters in the ipxe forums. Seems a lot more complicated then I thought at first. As far as I could find out the chip used in the ASUS adapter is ASIX (maybe AX88772B). Start reading here: http://forum.ipxe.org/showthread.php?tid=6151&pid=10612#pid10612
Thank You for the reply. This definitely seems to be new area for IT now hehe
I believe, for those systems that don’t have LAN built in, there’s usually an option (extra accessory to purchase of course) that can be used to provide LAN and PXE booting capabilities.
Correct, Was thinking some sort of USB to Ethernet Adapter…
We bought the Eeebook x205T’s from asus and they sell their own brand adapter. Was thinking this would work.
Hello all,
Got a new issue that has come up and wanted to get some input from others.
School purchased about 300+ new laptops that no longer have Ethernet Ports -_-
I’ve been trying to research what my options are now.
Previously I have been using FOG to deploy my images and would still like to do so with these.
Is USB to Ethernet Plausible option? I have found that drivers or Bios support still required so what about a Pre-boot environment like windows PE or a linux boot.?
So i dumped using Multicast as the speeds where terrible and I’ve been using UDPCast and I’ve been able to push more at a time.
I am going to duplicate and add a node so i an have 2 different sets going at a time and see if i can push 32 at a time with 2 nodes using udp.
Edit: using a mysql client can i connect to the fog data base so i can export a more custom report…? if so what do i need to do
