Snapins failing due to hostname not changing
-
I have not seen it mentioned in recent posts so hope this is not a repeat post but i have an issue currently where i deploy an image, everything seems to be going ok i see in the log file fog auto updates the client to latest one included with rc8 but then it goes on to the hostname changer section where it should rename the machine but instead declares there is someone logged in ( except there 100% is not i sat and watched the machine myself so i know no one is logged on ) so cancels that action and begins the snapins but unfortunately our default snapin script relies on the name of the machine being correct which it is not.

This is why the Debugger was made. Note that there is a bug in the Debugger starting at 0.11.0 with exiting so for the below instructions please use the one from 0.10.6 (https://github.com/FOGProject/fog-client/releases/download/0.10.6/Debugger.exe)
Make a snapin with the following settings:
Snapin File
:Debugger.exe
Snapin Arguments
:user list > C:\user-dump.txt
Deploy this snapin on a problematic host. A listing of the logged in users will be in
C:\user-dump.txt

Is the machine sys-prepped? What version of Windows?
Pinging @Joe-Schmitt on this. The OP says nobody is logged in, but the hostname won’t change still.
-
@Wayne-Workman
It is a sys-prepped image yes but the fog service is disabled until everything is complete and a reboot is complete, then it is enabled and as you can see starts the auto update of client but when the new client fires up it claims there is someone logged on but there definitely is not because we even have a script in the image which forces user logoff instantly until deployment is complete.Windows 7 currently
We have the force task reboot disabled so we can queue stuff up for when it is rebooted ( always have done though )Thanks
-
@theWizard When it says it’s not doing anything while users are still logged in, it’s acting on the below pictured setting. The problem is you say that nobody is logged in - and that’s concerning - and we need to figure out why this is happening.
-
@Wayne-Workman
Ah i see thanks that makes more sense i forgot about that setting, true though there is no one logged on but it says there is which is where the problem lay. -
@joe-schmitt I’m requesting in the next FOG Client version, that the client write in the logs who is logged in that is preventing the renaming/joining process from completing when the “Make changes even when users are logged on?” Setting is disabled.

Things were crazy at work when this thread was opened. Three days ago, I did create a github issue about it - because I feel simply adding who’s logged in into the logs would help us solve this issue and future issues. here’s the issue:
