Hi, i installed a new server with ubuntu 11.10 with fog 0.32. all works great, but i think the imagin process works realy slow (max 250MiBb/min). With my old FOG Server (0.29) i reach 800 or 900. Is there a reason for?
i see my cpu load is 100% during the imagin with some nfsd tasks…
okay an upload of an image works extremly fast. but there is also a point: hey starts fast, stops for some seconds, run fast, stops, fast, stops etc. whats going on there?
Thank you very much!

Post away!

In my experience, VM’s never make “great” FOG/WDS/Ghost/etc servers due to their shared nature.

Hey guys, I have the same issue, the FOG server was very fast, I could deploy 10 computers at a time with very high speed, now all of a sudden it turned into a very slow process, it takes only one computer at a time and takes almost 2 hours to deploy 15GB image.
The transfer speed is around 150MB, though I have a 1GB Nic and switch on all computers and server.
My fog is .32 on a Ubuntu 11.10
Any advise

How long since the installation of your FOG server did this issue arise?
What model routers are you using?
If any are there any switches between you?
Did you name each of the hosts on your network a different name?
Are all the computers off when you push out the Multi-Cast reqeust?
Have you tried adding all the hosts you want to multicast into a single group and then running a single multicast action?
Have you looked at your multicast max terminals per multicast?
If you ping from a host computer to the fog server does it say the following … “Host Unreachable Request from <host ip>”

@Mohammad: what hardware did you use for your fog server? i testet .32 in a vmware on a old server. my praxis system is a never (more performance) vmware server. there the fog runs quickly 🙂

I was using a Dell OptiPlex 755 with 2GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Ubuntu 11.10.
The FOG server is connected to a switch which is connected in turn to the main switch of the company, the routing and switching works fine.
All the servers have different names.
All the computers are on when I push out the multi-cast request.
I haven’t tried adding all the hosts, because it’s a production line, where we deploy an image with our software installed on it let’s say every two hours to a new computer of OptiPlex790, unless we have a heavy production, then it’s more than one at a time.
The server became very slow after I installed the updates of Ubuntu the first week of February 2012.
I had to migrate to a new computer (assembled in house), with 4GB RAM and 1TB HDD.
Ping works fine from and to the fog server.
I just finished migration to the new server and did the chainloading.
Now a new thing came up with the new server, when I used the Kernel that came with fog .32 it took 15 minutes to deploy an image to a new computer, but after I update the kernel to Kernel - 3.2.4 Core, now it’s taking 40 minutes to do the same image!!!

Any suggestions to make it faster, please advise.

Thanks in advance

sounds like you just need to roll back to the previous kernel that you were using?

That’s what I did, a new installation for 0.32 with the kernel that comes with it.
I don’t want to update to avoid those problems, I have to stick to the production plan.
