FOG Client - not fully uninstalling
-
Win10 Enterprise.
I’m making changes to an image to work on another FOG Server. I uninstalled the fog client via Programs and Features, and then rebooted and reinstalled and pointed it to the new server the image will be used with. I saw authentication errors in the log.
After some digging, I find that the c:\program files (x86)\FOG directory has a ca.cert file dated from March, from the old server. I uninstalled the fog client again and that ca.cert file remained.
The uninstallation process, I feel, should totally delete this file, and the whole c:\program files (x86)\FOG directory as well.

This isn’t a bug. Edit the certificate store and remove the certificate from there. The client should then try pinning your new certificate. I don’t consider this a bug but maybe there’s a way to address this?

I consider it a bug. Uninstall - to me - means gone completely.
I’ve already got it fixed for the image, but I just wanted to bring it up here.

@Wayne-Workman Never mind me, I was driving when I read this posting. I saw the cert thing and thought pinning, not just a leftover file.
I still don’t consider this a bug though. Mostly because many programs leave “remnants” when they’re uninstalled. That doesn’t mean we can’t fix this, just saying…

@Tom-Elliott @Wayne-Workman It’s a bug. It’s been around since the first client build. Its relatively minor and doesn’t harm anything so it has been extremely low priority in my backlog.

For reference, here is the official ticket in my backlog

Just trying not to lose track of this.

@Wayne-Workman v0.11.3 nightlies patch this issue. I will mark this thread as solved once v0.11.3 is released.

Please confirm if this is good to go with 0.11.3 please? Yes it’s basically impossible to expect this to work with 0.10.6 (and probably prior issues). I’ve renamed the heading to “FOG Client - not fully uninstalling” as making it rely on the specific version that will never be able to be fixed seems strange.
