Lenovo M73 Boot Hangs
-
Hi Guys,
Just setup fog today and am able to boot and image. However, when trying to boot to the UEFI Windows install (Boot from hard disk) we are granted with a blinking cursor. Secure boot is disabled and boot priority is set to legacy first with Legacy and UEFI enabled. We’ve tried setting the Exit to Hard Drive Type to every option. All grub options hang and EXIT hangs at a blinking cursor. We also tried undionly.kkpxe which does the same thing.
Is there anyway to remedy this?
Thanks,

Try changing the hard drive operation mode.
Take a look through these threads:

Tried these things and this isn’t the issue. It seems to be an issue with undionly.kpxe booting in legacy mode which will not boot back into UEFI to boot Windows 8. We tried using ipxe.efi as well which gives a NBP is too big to fit into free base memory error. Booting into Windows by selecting it as the boot device works fine however using the NIC as the default does not and without this Fog is essentially useless for us. Is there anyway for Fog to work with UEFI PXE boot?

Here’s an article on just what you’re asking for:

Yes for FOG but maybe No for Lenovo M73?!
I can’t boot PXE in UEFI mode on my Lenovo X220! If I go to the BIOS of the Lenovo X220 and set to “UEFI only” the boot device manager only shows my hard disk. The NIC just disappears! To me that is an indicator that the NIC doesn’t start in EFI mode.
We tried using ipxe.efi as well which gives a NBP is too big to fit into free base memory error.
To me this error is another indicator because I only had this error when trying to PXE load an EFI binary on a normal BIOS machine.

Just thinking out loud here, but if target device doesn’t support PXE net booting in UEFI mode, might it support USB booting in UEFI mode. The thought is build a ipxe boot environment on a usb flash drive and boot off that. I’m pretty sure that ipxe boot environment can be setup to boot off usb flash. The question would be does the hardware support this…
^^^^ (just using a graphic to isolate ideas)
On some hardware platforms you need to enable the legacy ROMS to get support for both USB and PXE booting in UEFI mode. I don’t have any lenovos here to test that idea on.

@george1421 That might work for getting imaging done in UEFI mode for this weird hardware, but I think that @tj.krause 's original problem is simply an exit to HDD issue in BIOS network booting mode. The OS is installed under UEFI / GPT but the network boot is Legacy - and things are not jiving.
