SOPHOS Cloud - Duplicate Names
-
Hi!
Well my imaging is about halfway done for the 2016-17 school year. Now that I’m half way done, I have discovered that all of the machines that I have imaged have had issues with duplicate name entries on our Sophos server…I followed these steps in this article https://community.sophos.com/kb/en-us/120560…
Now I ask the question, what is the easiest method to deploy Sophos without having to physically touch every machine?
Thanks!
Cheers,
Joe

Sounds like you didn’t register any computers? What version of fog?
-
@Wayne-Workman I’m running the latest trunk version. Running Version 8515
SVN Revision: 5882.The computers register with Sophos but they all came in with two identical entries (both with the same host name). One that appears to be current, the other in most cases is weeks older and inactive. It could be that the other entry is from when the machine was on the domain prior to re-imaging. But some of these entries certainly were not there, as I changed the host names of many of the computers on the domain.

@Joe-Gill I’m not talking about registration with sophos, I’m asking about fog registration.

@Wayne-Workman They appear to register just fine in fog. No duplicates there. Everything seems fine. I register every host prior to imaging. Then, in most cases I multicast to a group of hosts there. I would think it’s fine.

Typically you add software that requires a unique GUID post image deployment. This needs to happen after the system has been renamed by FOG and connected to AD. You should be able to do this with a snapin (I don’t use them so I can’t give you the exact steps).
The other option is to download the free version of PDQ Deploy and then create a package and deploy via PDQ Deploy. You can do this post imaging without needing to touch each system. I can say the paid for version is well worth it if you need to do a multi step install (could do something similar with the free version if you can create a batch or vbscript to install your application). We use PDQ Deploy for our application deployments and it works rather well, you just need applications that have a silent install option.

@george1421 Ok. So that’s what I thought initially. I was mistaken though because their kbase article was misleading. I experienced something similar years ago with CA AV. Sophos does allow for a silent install, so I may look into using something like PDQ Deploy or possibly snapins.
I’m new to some of this stuff. I was in IT years ago and got out of it for a little over 10 years. You can say things have changed a bit!
Thanks for the advice!

This shows there is a way to do a silent install
https://community.sophos.com/kb/en-us/120611
With an install command of:
SophosInstall.exe -q -tps remove
SophosInstall.exe command line switches

@george1421 Thank you!!
