inventory registered machines via the pxe menu
-
@Wayne-Workman I have been using this, but I would like to add the option to the menu for registered hosts
-
@Wayne-Workman What the OP is asking for is to avoid using the WebGUI for this.
@falko If you just do a quick registration from the PXE menu it will update the inventory and not over write the host. But you will need to set the quick reg option to show for reg hosts.
-
@falko it’s probably possible, I know recently a person added a normally web based task to the boot menu. It involved using the task edit plugin and I think a hook somewhere. I can’t remember exactly what he was doing, but I think it was a full wipe task in the boot menu. What you would need is something very similar.

@ITSolutions does a quick inventory pull hardware information? I thought it didn’t?
-
@Wayne-Workman It does
-
@falko cool.
-
@ITSolutions I have just enabled that thanks
-
@Wayne-Workman It always has for me, thta is how I reg all of my machines now. Quick Reg is the default for unreg hosts and then once it is in the DB I can search them and set image, snapins, name, etc
-
@ITSolutions @Wayne-Workman same, I use to register all hosts with quick reg
-
@falko said in inventory registered machines via the pxe menu:
@ITSolutions I have just enabled that thanks
Make sure it isn’t set as the default for Reg Host or you will end up in a boot loop of quick reg.
-
I wouldn’t know, our name nomenclature includes room number and asset tag number so at work we always do a full registration.
-
@Wayne-Workman Ours uses the service tag, so quick reg is nice, I can copy and paste the service tag from the web gui as opposed to manually typing it. Dell isn’t bad but everyone else has like a 16 char confusing service code. One of these days I will see about making it auto fill the service tag tot he name.
-
@ITSolutions there’s been work in this area already, recently. Maybe a few weeks ago a person scripted a custom name for registration. Can’t remember the thread name though.
-
@Wayne-Workman Awesome, thanks for the heads up. I will look around to see if I can find it
