    • RE: Windows 10 1703 Image with strange issue

@chris6862 if you say no o&o usage, do you have copyprofile in your unattend.xml?
Today i deployed a system where the error does not accour, no matter who i am logging in internet explorer and office reg is working.

I don’t understand howto delete those files, if you say sysprep system normally shuts down after that, then you boot some other live system to remove those files or folders from the filesystem? then you take the image?

If this is the solution i am sure it has todo with copyprofile bit in unattend.xml, maybe there is something going wrong while making a copy of the local admin to default user.

But i would like to have a way to delete those files and folders without doing that externally with booting another live system after sysprep, there must be a way.

I will try your solution tomorrow on a computer where we have an exchanged employe, if this user is logged in on his specific system i have the known problems, i will try to delete those files and folders in his profile to find out it the problems are gone after that and get back to you.

    • RE: Remove computers from domain.

      Hi,

nice script and i am thinking of a place where we can collect useful snapins that are based on script and not binary.
@Wayne-Workman maybe somewhere in the wiki?

I would also appreciate an embedded solution for this, because when i dismantle a computer (employee leaves the company) i always bring the computer/notebook back to stock, remove it from ad (manually, goto ads an remove computer account) and i deactivate our av license.

@tom-elliott So it would be really cool if we would have that option in the advanced tasks.

Did you come across any more info on this issue?

      Thanks
      Chris

      Hi,

unfortunately no but i created a new image only did basic things and the exact thing happens again.
two ideas, maybe ms is kicking our asses because of missing reimaging rights, or it has todo with copyprofile in unattend.xml or its maybe the usage of o&o shutup.

Do you use copyprofile in your unattend.xml and or tools that gain privacy like o&o shutup?

      Hello
I’m trying to get your script working, but can’t get it to work.

Does the bat to exe converter also pack in the oemkey.exe or do i have to copy the oemkey.exe to a directory in my image?

      Thanks

setkey.exe in the bin directory is the finished product. oemkey.exe is packed into setkey.exe while the script itself is also in oemkey.exe but executed from setkey.exe itself.

All you need is setkey.exe to be executed as admin (snapin) nothing i just uploaded everything together because people may leery when can’t see the source of it.

      Server
      • FOG Version: 1.5.0 RC7
      • OS: Ubuntu 14

      Hi,

for some kind of reason i have one host (don’t know since when) that does not have a host name (it’s empty) therefore no link to enter the host details even when i catch the id from deploy link and manually try to enter (http://fog/fog/management/index.php?node=host&sub=edit&id=xxxxx) it doesn’t work.

When i mark that host and try to delete it the delete overview do not present anything and i think therefore pressing the delete button will do nothing.

      Bild Text
      Bild Text

Howto remove that biatch host or give it a hostname to try if it can be entered by link then (SQL)?
      Host ID is 31418

      Hi,

sometimes i also mention that some computers won’t boot to hdd after deployment they continue boot from network, goto menu, can’t boot from hdd, reset, another network boot and there is the infinite loop.

I am not sure whats causing the computer to network boot again while this was initalized as fog task with wol.

Since i don’t have a problem to power off the computer and turn it back on for a normal boot i never posted such of this issues.

rerun the fog installer and pay attention if it’s throwing errors.
Do you have automatic security updates enabled for ubuntu? Setup is asking you while installing if it should install critical updates automatically.

Maybe something is broken cause of this.

    • RE: FOG, what can and can't it do?

well fog saves you a lot of time therefore it may saves you from divorcement from your wife 😉

      Is FOG fully GUI based?

yes it is today all the actions are done via the webif and some basic stuff can be done by the client itself when booting into the pxe menu.

Others have mentioned ‘snapins’ as an answer to this missing feature.

Snapins can for example used to deploy software to a client but you can use the snapin for whatever you want, its doing remote actions to the clients.

Is it possible to script FOG actions so I can image a machine on command from a script?

Today you will install the fog client to a host, if you then like to image that host you can start this via fogs web interface, then the client will be rebooted to boot from network and for example create an image.

I’ll just start with that one.

I would recommend to just install and start usage you will grow with that.

      Thanks for your help

      you are welcome 🙂

@Wayne-Workman i am thinking of making some videos of fogs basic actions so newbies always have a quicker look of what fog is intended to do.

    • RE: NVMe Imaging Problems

try to shutdown your windows with:

      shutdown -s -t 0 -f

then capture (i assume u are capturing windows).

It’s because shutdown /s performs a conventional shutdown. The shutdown via the GUI performs a fast shutdown for Windows 8 & 10, where it does something that’s pretty much like a hibernation, so that startup and shutdown are fast.

      https://askubuntu.com/questions/462381/cant-mount-ntfs-drive-the-disk-contains-an-unclean-file-system

If you permanently like to disable that you can use (admin rights needed):

      powercfg -h off

You don’t need to increase the partition yourself, fog will do that before it captures everything 😉

it’s all about network througput and storage fastness comparing to the network speed 😉
would be interesting to see the deployment speed with a native 10gbit lan and ssd raid for storage 😛 …and sure the client should have ssd too.

But i can tell you 1gbit lan and hdd in the storage node can easily deploy a 16gb image within 2 minutes to a system with ssd 😉 i see it daily happen again and again hehe

@sudburr said in Windows desktop shortcuts... .ico images gone after sysprep!:

It’s not a v1703 thing. I ran into it with v1607 as well.

After you copy the shortcuts to desktop you must edit the permissions for each to:

ADD Users Read & Execute, Read

really? I never had to do so.

    • RE: Windows desktop shortcuts... .ico images gone after sysprep!

I only know this issue regarding to a network share which covers the icon and the client had no read access yet. When then windows is trying to load the icon it couldn’t reach the share readable and therefore the icon is empty.

What if you check the icons symbol settings? Is it still pointing to the correct local ico file?
Please show a screener of the shortcut properties.

If you choose the same icon will it be displayed after you close the properties?

Maybe it’s an icon cache problem, before i sysprep i always make a cleanmgr run with all possible settings enabled to clean the system up.

    • Can i mix 1.4.4 with 1.5 for evaluation?

      Hi,

my main fog is a vm and my storage node is a physical machine.
I am thinking of giving 1.5 RC6 a try, for this i want to make a backup of my vm.

But is it possible to use 1.5 RC6 mixed with a 1.4.4 Storage Node for some time?
I am a little afraid that basic stuff may not work with the current RC, i am just doing simple deployments and use ad join and snapins.

    • RE: Microsoft Surface Pro 4

@avaryan what kind of image do you deploy? (legacy or uefi and which os)
You are forced to use efi for the image, you can’t use legacy. (Surface is efi only)

While you deploy or handle with fog boot stuff you need to disable secure boot.
You can reenable Secure Boot after deployment (no more fog boot stuff).
