Tribble check out this: http://fogproject.org/forum/threads/nothing-is-working.10598/page-2#post-28305

I’m sure that the Dell Powerconnects have Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) enabled by default. Please confirm that these have be disabled.

Also there seems to be a portfast function as well. With portfast being disabled it would interfere with iPXE and not PXE

I tweaked a few more settings with the info you provided and mine is working correctly now also. Images upload on top of each other with out issues and this works perfectly.

• RE: IPXE PHP boot files not found

PXE is a Network boot option. The TFTP service is configured in the fog install to “share” the files in /tftpboot. Then the undionly.kpxe(Boot file) file “chains” or links to the files located in /var/www/fog/service/ipxe. The ipxe folder contains the “Kernels” that are needed to run the selections made in the Fog Menu.

I’m not sure on the SQL but there are many issues with 14.10 considering its only been released for 2 months.
But to allay your fears, .33 worked perfectly for all our machines w/pxe.
Fears eased 🆒. Just have to throw that out there just-in-case. I have Netgear Prosafes (1GB) w/ 1GB GBIC’s here and it works…except for the few bugs i keep hitting…cough TOM!..

Have you you tried any of the other undionly.ipxe files from https://mastacontrola.com/ipxe/? I would strongly suggest /d6300-DEFAULT-GOOD/ This is the last I did on the rounds of testing here and it seems to be running smoothly.

Be absolutely sure that STP is disable on these switches. Otherwise, PXE or iPXE will not work.

Did you change your DCHP server to reflect that setting change from undionly.kpxe --> ipxe.kpxe

oh and you spelled ipxe.kpke I hope you meant ipxe.kpxe.

• Hardware Currently Working with FOG v1.x.x

I will be starting a new wiki page that shows the compatibility of each machine make/model/kernels/date and other information. I will need a few things from some other people.

Give me ALL MODELS Working or Not working. For not working you will be directed to post to the forum but this can be added to the troublesome machines list.

Please Follow this format when posting.

MAKE MODEL
NETWORK CARD
PXE VERSION
NEWEST KERNEL TESTED
Date Tested
Image type

Here are the currently listed machines that we know work without issue.

You should have a a folder in your root called /tftpboot. If not then you will need to re-install fog.

Are you having DHCP issues on your network?

Download: http://blogs.technet.com/b/teamdhcp/archive/2009/07/03/rogue-dhcp-server-detection.aspx

There you will find a Rogue DHCP Detector. Run this and check the time(ms) it takes to get an ip. I would hope that it is under 300ms. If over 300ms then your looking at an issue with your DHCP server. If under that in windows there may be an issue with your network switches passing the DCHP under pxe situations. Such as STP or portfast settings may need to be changed.

• RE: Windows Batch Create/update host

Since I reformatted my fog server and did a complete new install from Fog 0.32 --> 0.33 --> 1.0.0 --> 1.0.1–>1.1.0, I have lost my client list. 😞 I originally hoped the client would re-register themselves but that function was lost in 0.29 and it makes sense why. The HOST has no idea what image to point to. Considering there may be 2 possible images for the same Make\Model of machine.

So I wanted to make this easier on myself.

Here is what I came up with… I have a shortcut to a network shared batch file so I can make some changes on the fly with our users that can’t do things for themselves. This batch file is in windows All Users\Startup folder. (Dirty I know but works). SO if I want my staff to look at a webpage as soon as they log in I can force that. 🙂

Windows Batch file:
start <fogserverip>/fog/management/index.php?node=host&sub=add
//Register this host Button (wolfbane8653)
//Must install arp first (sudo apt-get install arp) before enabling this button
?>
<script>
function fillinfo()
{
//get this hosts info
<?php
$ipaddr = $_SERVER[‘REMOTE_ADDR’];
$chk = exec('/usr/sbin/arp -a '.$ipaddr,$output);
$data = explode(" “,$output[0]);
$name = explode(”.",$data[0]);
$hostname = $name[0];
$macaddr = $data[3];
?>
//export php info into javascript
var hostname = “<?php echo $hostname ?>”;
var macaddr = “<?php echo $macaddr ?>”;
//output to textboxes
document.getElementsByName(“host”)[0].value=hostname;
document.getElementsByName(“mac”)[0].value=macaddr;
}
</script>
<button onclick=“fillinfo()”>Register THIS HOST</button>
<?php
//end button
//----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With this edit I now can click on this new button and it inputs my current computer name and mac address in the correct fields. Is there anyway this can be incorporated as a hook/plugin/option?

This is for Ubuntu so your www directory may be different.
cd /var/www/fog/service/ipxe/bn.png
Dimensions: 640 x 480

Be careful though, Each time you update or re-install Fog this will be reset to its original pic.

12.04 is solid. There maybe a possible issue with tftpd-hpa needing to be restarted after a system reboot but find the forum thread about restarting tftpd-hpa. Just keep that in mind if/when you get a TFTP: TIMED OUT issue.

That is correct. pxelinux.0 is no longer used. Please read during the install and change your option 66 & 67.

Option 66: <ip address of fog server>
Option 67: undionly.kpxe

It is possible that option 67 could be ipxe.kpxe or something of this sort. BUT undionly.kpxe is NOW your default boot file.
