    • RE: Lenovo x1 Gen 4 - NVMe with GPT partition

      Update::

      Almost there, I got 1.3.0 RC11 installed and configured /etc/dhcp/dhcp.conf and static IP for a isolated network.

      MBR partition with traditional /dev/sdX) works fine.

      Now testing with LEnovo X1 Carbon Gen 4 with UEFI only with GPT partitions on NVME SSDs

      Results:
      PXE over IPv4 looks promising, it sees the FOG server but It stops at

      “bzImage… ok
      init.xz… ok”

      I will need to search the forum against

      “waiting for link-up on net0… Down (http://ipxe.org/38086193)”

      Not yet. I will confirm once completed.

      At the moment I am trying to configure 1.3.0 RC11 on an isolated network like I have done for my 1.2.0 Stable.

      I feel like PacMan ever dot is a new obstacle . Will report back

    • Lenovo x1 Gen 4 - NVMe with GPT partition

      Re: HP Z640 - NVME PCI-E Drive

      Hate to be the guys that tries to revive an old topic, but before I open a new tread I will like to see if I can ask questions on this first.

      I have a Lenovo x1 Carbon that does BIO and UEFI that uses NVMe SSDs (PCIE 3.0 x4)

      Using the stable 1.2.0 (I don’t mind trying 1.3.0 just started learning this system a week ago)

      Kernel 3.19.3
      init.xz init_32.xz Default

      Everytime I deploy a new machine it states that the machine has no OS. I assume it is the way I am uploading the image.

      My question is, is there a way to capture with UEFI only? and is there any changes I need to make to support NVME drives, as I did notice my disk label is nvme0n1p1 and nvme0n1p2

      Please note I have a server running with identical set up with regular SSD with MBR partition versus GPT on these nvme drives.

    • RE: Host Machine and images

      @george1421

      I think I understand, I will play around. I’m glad I used norton to capture an image prior so my didn’t lose an data really.

      Also this maybe a bit off topic, but I wanted to share this on the forums, it would seem a machine registration is based on its MAC address it would appear.

      What i find interesting is that Lenovo X1 Carbons (Gen 1 - 4) do not have ethernet ports, it used a proprietary connector OR a USB3.0 ethernet adapter that have a MAC id on them. So when I use the same ethernet adapter FOG sees it as the same registered host. I

      So it seems like host is the image and not so much the actual machine itself then?

    • Host Machine and images

      Quick simple (I hope question)

      Machine “A” = registered hostname “A” is loaded with image “img_A”
      Lets say:
      Img_A is windows 7
      Img_B is Windows 10

      If I wanted to load a new image say “img_B” into machine A and capture it, do I have to unregister the machine first?

      I would seem the what I just experienced was

      1. Machine" A" with “img_A” (with Windows 7) was captured and saved on fog. So img_A = Windows 7

      2. Install “img_B” (with Windows 10) on to machine “A”, then attempt to capture the image.

      Result. img_A is now Windows 10 and img_B has zero Data.

      Did I miss a step in the process?

    • RE: How to update kernel on an isolated network

      @george1421

      So bzImage32 is the 32 bit and 64 = bzImage. Since I was able to clone the image.

      I found that using the Lenovo X1 Carbon 4th Gen with Kernel 3.19.2/3 resolved my issue, “Attempting to inventory…”

      Thanks George!

    • RE: How to update kernel on an isolated network

      If I download the kernels (https://fogproject.org/kernels/) and download say 4.1.2.32, should I rename it as bzImage32 (32 being 32 bit) and 64bit is just bzImage ?

    • How to update kernel on an isolated network

      Sorry if this has been asked but google search as well as here has returned with 0 hits.

      Ubuntu 14.04.5 (on a X1 Carbon Gen 3)
      I followed the isolated network instructions (https://wiki.fogproject.org/wiki/index.php?title=FOG_on_an_Isolated_Network)

      My question is how do I update the kernel, i understand if this was on the network with internet access it would download and install automagically via the GUI, but I was wonder:

      1. Where to download kernels.

      2. How to install kernels manually either GUI or Terminal.

        • I did come across this post by Tom (https://wiki.fogproject.org/wiki/index.php?title=Build_TomElliott_Kernel)

      Thank you.
