Sooner or later we’ll see people trying to use FOG for imaging Mac OS X clients as well. AFAIK there is no wiki entry on how to get this working. Most of the information is provided on the web but it’s all over the place. I’d offer to write things up on how to run Apple computers with FOG if you think it’s worth the effort…
I’m going to be messing with this soon.

If I can get it working, I’ll write up a detailed WiKi page on it.

• RE: Conditional boot menu (aka different boot menu for Windows and Mac)

I’ll make a suggestion…

Perhaps, after registering a PC or a Mac, through the Web GUI, we can simply manually tick a check box that says what it is… and that can be stored in the database. If the check-box for Mac isn’t ticked, assume PC.

And then, maybe we can have two completely separate boot menus/methods depending solely on what the database has stored for said MAC address…

JUST a suggestion… It really seems to me that this needs to be more streamlined.
Okay, I lied about waiting until Monday.

On the 1.2.0 boot image, my best guess is it doesn’t use udhcpc. The 1.2.0 image successfully uses eth1 on its own. So it looks like your initial theory is out.

But I found more: /etc/network/interfaces forces the use of udhcpc -t 100 -T 20 as an argument to iface eth0 inet dhcp on the SVN versions. The 1.2.0 does not even have configurations for eth0 or eth1. At this time, I’m not sure what action gets an IP on the 1.2.0 image. But this should be helpful for anyone else to continue the search.
Clearly a power user, if I ever saw one.

I can’t put a finger on when the image went missing… that was a while back. I’ve simply shrugged, rebuilt a new image, WRITE PROTECTED all the images, and moved on.

But, my image DID go missing that one time, and I didn’t know what the hell happened.

• RE: Unable to upload image

Did there used to be a storage node in the environment you’re trying to take an image from? A storage node that perhaps, was configured to use the FOG server when that snapshot of the FOG server (the one you used to restore) was made?

Just an idea…

Basically, since it stopped working when you restored it… the question now is, what’s changed about the FOG machine / environment since that last backup was made?

Maybe double check the permissions on the linked (new) hard drive or directory?

I would suspect that those permissions need to be the same as the ones applied to the original /images directory.

What is the version of Debian?
What version of FOG?

Copied from Tom’s Posts:

does
/data/images/.mntcheck and /data/images/dev/.mntcheck exist?
Are the permissions as: chmod -R 777 /data/images?

selinux disabled?

rpcbind running?

What’s the boot file look like? in a browser, Replace <ipoffogserver> & <macaddressofclientintask> with appropriate data. Mac addresses include colons.
This is the address:
http://<ipoffogserver>/fog/service/boot.php?mac=<macaddressofclientintask>

Please post your FOG install log.

Also, TFTP and FTP are not the same things. They are each their own thing, as I understand. Two separate services.

• RE: Modify path /images to /home ???

It might be possible to shrink the /home directory, and then expand the / directory.

I’m not entirely sure about Debian, but I know that in Fedora 21, you can choose the sizes of the directories during installation. During my installation, I just went ahead and created the /images directory right then and there, and gave it a ton of space.
I managed to upload my image but this upload is blocked but i have this error now : FOG FTP Login Failed
Tell us, is your image sitting in /images/dev or in /images?

The Storage Management password is the culprit, probably. It’s the network folder looking thing in the Web GUI.

You should double check that the credentials set on the storage group in there are exactly the same as the Linux Fog account credentials.

Also, you can double check that the FTP services are running on the FOG machine. Note any errors there.

• Web GUI, Fog login problem

Hey,

This is probably not a common thing but, yesterday we were having serious issues with our ISP. Things still had connectivity to the internet, but were just dog, dog slow.

I jumped onto our Fog server’s Web GUI to do some imaging… Typed in the credentials as usual to log in and it just sat there… and sat there.

The little counter at the bottom:

Estimated FOG Sites: 4826
Latest Version: 1.2.0

That wasn’t displaying any info, it was just spinning (due to our dog, dog slow speeds yesterday).

So, I suspect that since it detected an internet connection, it tries to pull those two pieces of data (from where ever?) and it doesn’t process a log in attempt until that data is loaded.
Anyone else experience this?

Thanks,
Wayne
