Seems to be the : , if i put in just the port with out the : it makes the port and installs. Of course that doesnt prompt to save. As soon as i put in the correct port name with the : i get the generic failure.

I am using the same port as I did on the old fog client. Any idea what a Generic Failure is?

a reboot of the PC seems to fix it on the two test machines.

ok, then i must have other AD issues as a reimage gives me an security relationship error until i delete the object and then fog ads it back. Let me try another test PC. Thanks for the quick reply.

Been using fog for a long time. Just now starting with Active Directory. Prior to that we had Novell eDirectory. When re-imaging a machine there was no need to delete it from eDirectory. Novell took care of hooking the re-imaged machine to its directory object. It seems to me that one must delete the PC’s AD object before a reimage to avoid security relationship errors from AD? Is this correct?

Got it thanks. Trying to trouble shoot AD not working. We never had a AD before, we were eDir. The machines manually join or will join with power shell. Thanks. so now I know when it renames it should join. Will help with my trouble shooting.

How do i trigger a PC to do a fog automatic Active Directory domain join without reimaging the PC?

I am completely aware on how to write an invoice, My question was can you people from FOG invoice a school. If I write the invoice im probably going to go to jail.

I really want to make a donation to FOG. We are a school, so no bitcoin mining. I talked to our treasurer and making a donation is not going to be possible. He did say that if we could get some kind of invoice then we can make a payment. If you cant do that, how else can I donate?

When open in Excel the columns do not line up correctly. Meaning that the columns have all the information shifted left or right and do not line up with the headers. Hope this makes sense.

We are just going to go ahead and do a rebuild and do a import of config and database and hope for the best.

Actually yes we do know each other. In fact is the same server. While he was looking at the failed upgrade, I thought I would ask about promoting a perfectly fine working node which is on newer hardware and software to the master. I thought it might be easier to get the node working as a master and buying brand new hardwar to replace the old master server and not have to copy the images somewhere to blow away the OS and rebuild. However it looks like that my not be the case. It just seems a shame not to use a machine that already has new hardware and fog on it already.

Want to promote Node to master in order to power off the OLD master.

What steps are needed to change a Node to a Master before powering off the Master.

I installed fog on my Ubuntu machine at home and it worked just fine. It was a real machine and not a VM. I also had the same machine running DHCP as well as fog. I just answered yes to the question about is the dhcp on the same server.

Here at work it is on Fedora like 12 (dont laugh) I use a generic txt only dhcp server called dhcpdns ( [url]http://dhcp-dns-server.sourceforge.net/[/url]) for reasons not related to fog. It runs in widows with no install, in its config I had to put this…

maybe try and run it on a the above little dhcp server which runs on windows with out an install and see if its a fog or dhcp issue.

we relied on IPs a lot too. Now we just make sure 065-251 or what ever is part of our host name. Not idea, but works.
Im not sure what fields are searchable, but we search a lot by tag1 for inventory, maybe put the IP in tag 2?
