• RE: Moving to an isolated network - Best approach

I went into VPN Connections and deleted the existing wired network.
I then entered an IP address that matched the network version
192.168.127.181, 255.255.255.0, 192.168.127.1
I did not set up a DNS entry.

The computer after a reboot found 192.168.127.177 as an IP address after reviewing the connection settings. I could not access the Fog system at all.
Step 1: unplug your FOG server from the main network.
Step 2: plug your FOG server into the isolated switch
Step 3: plug clients into the isolated switch
Step 4: profit
I followed and no profit.
The IP address was reassigned and could not login. I tried to create a static and rebooted, it will stayed on he previous. (wrong ip address) When I do select and create a static IP it shows that the network is not connected to the wired network…

• Moving to an isolated network - Best approach

After many hours of trying to configure and get running an isolated network, I setup Fog .032 and Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit (Desktop) on my network.
The settings I used were:
Here are the settings FOG will use:
Distro: Ubuntu
Installation Type: Normal Server
Server IP Address: 192.168.127.181
DHCP router Address: 192.168.127.1
DHCP DNS Address:
Interface: eth0
Using FOG DHCP: 1
Internationalization: 0
I was able to recognize and image a drive.

Now the opportunity. I am looking to image about 85 (23 at a time) Dell 6500/6510 laptops with the same syspreped Win 7 image.
I would like to move to an isolated network. Just the FOG server and the network hub with the computers connected to the hub.

First off, am I missing any hardware?
How do I move my system to an isolated network?
Can I still use the image that I captured to multicast after the move? Assuming I am successful…

Any feedback is appreciated. 😉

• IP Address Settings and DHCP understanding

Hello,
I have looked through several posts before posting this but my question is two fold.
I want to build a VMWare version of FOG and see about imaging computers. I have read about the IDE and Bind/Bridge settings.
My question is if I am using a 24 port hub, what settings should I choose when setting fog up? Use DHCP don’t use it?

The same question them goes for a real machine (not VM) I set up. I may be working through a 4 port wireless router on the road, just to use the 4 ports instead of spending the money to buy a 4 port switch or I may be using a 4 port switch.

I am looking for the appropriate settings to accomplish a good setup? Also if one does not owrk or I need to switch, what is the best way to?

Thanks for any direction…

• RE: Where do I start

I believe that I figured out my issue with setting up the network. Through various tutorials I have now established on a closed network it is critical to set the network card up prior to installing FOG. I am now going to try and attempt to create a VM, as I would prefer to run this from a VM. I did read that it is critical to bridge the card.

Any other suggestions when working with VMWare?

• Where do I start

Hello,
first off let me start by saying over the last few days I have combed through the forums, wikis, and web and still at a loss.

I would like to:
Isolated system (however the dedicated laptop does have a wireless card connected to a real network)
Run a dedicated Dell e6410 laptop and multicast images to other Dell laptops (D6x0 and E6xxx models)
Capture images from these laptops
Run the most current version of FOG and Ubuntu (if possible)

I have tried installing and following tutorials from Ubuntu 8.10 through 12.04 using 32 and 64bit. My problem is the same, the computer I want to image will not load FOG’s boot via PXE.

This could be because I may have the the network settings incorrect or as I read through posts there could be an issue with the network card in either of the two units. I have limited knowledge of Ubuntu and am thinking I would like to try Ubuntu 12.04 and the KS kernel. As I understand it the KS kernel supposedly has most if not all drivers out there. My concern is since this is Ubuntu 12.04, will there be any issues upgrading this?

I am looking for some guidance as to what IP, DNS, DHCP settings to use and what version software shoudl I use to make this work with the Dell E65x0 series computers…

Any and all help is appreciated…
