IP Address Settings and DHCP understanding
-
Hello,
I have looked through several posts before posting this but my question is two fold.
I want to build a VMWare version of FOG and see about imaging computers. I have read about the IDE and Bind/Bridge settings.
My question is if I am using a 24 port hub, what settings should I choose when setting fog up? Use DHCP don’t use it?The same question them goes for a real machine (not VM) I set up. I may be working through a 4 port wireless router on the road, just to use the 4 ports instead of spending the money to buy a 4 port switch or I may be using a 4 port switch.
I am looking for the appropriate settings to accomplish a good setup? Also if one does not owrk or I need to switch, what is the best way to?
Thanks for any direction…
Rod

If you are going to be isolated to any switch and not connected to the rest of the network then you must enable DHCP on the FOG server in order to answer PXEboot requests. It doesn’t matter if you use the 4 port wireless router, but you need to disable DHCP service on the router when you are trying to PXEboot, or you have to jump through hoops to get them two systems working together (proxydhcp)
