RE: Next upgrade of FOG/Ubuntu
Also, I’ve tried installing the current version of FOG on the daily build of 12.04. As of right now, FOG is very unhappy when it tries to install. It looks like the install.sh might have to be tweaked.

Next upgrade of FOG/Ubuntu
So in preparation of the new LTS version of Ubuntu coming out, I decided to do some testing. I figure of those using Ubuntu to run FOG on, most of you are running the LTS version. For those that don’t know, the new LTS version comes out this month, 12.04 and both the server and desktop editions will now be supported for 5 years. Be ready for the Unity interface as well. Nothing that a little sudo apt-get install gnome-panel can’t fix :)This makes for a good platform to run FOG on, due to the long support of the OS. Granted, 12.04 is still in the beta 2 stage, however, it’ll only be bug fixes for the final release. So I decided to try it out on the test VM I have for FOG. The goal, at least for me, is to upgrade FOG to .33 and then upgrade the production servers from 10.04 LTS to 12.04 LTS.
Since the official release isn’t available yet I downloaded the beta 12.04 and tried to upgrade my test server from 10.04 to 12.04. So for those of you wondering if it works, the answer is no. My images are still intact, but that’s pretty much it. The web server is gone, mysql is gone etc. So at least in the beta stage, don’t try upgrading from the CD when the time comes. Though when the official release is out, i’ll try upgrading through the OS, which might make a difference. But for now, time to roll back to the previous snapshot
Just thought I’d share the beginning of the testing phase of the pretty hefty Ubuntu upgrade.

RE: FOG working alongside mac
yes, that’s what that link will do. You modify a config file that pulls out the Apple portion of Macs, so when it PXE boots it checks if it’s an Apple MAC address, and if it is, it’ll go and point it to your Apple imaging server.
-
RE: FOG working alongside mac
I would set FOG up according to the documentation, and then follow these directions to still be able to netboot your Macs:
-
RE: Computer Group Limits
What we could do is actually put in for a feature request to allow FOG to use any MAC address associated with a PC. That way, it wouldn’t matter if the wireless, bluetooth, additional NIC’s are set as the primary, it would default to whatever interface is currently accessing FOG.
-
RE: Computer Group Limits
It might not like it on importing it, but once imported, it doesn’t really matter how many MAC’s you have. Actually, one of the features to FOG is adding multiple MAC’s to a single machine. However, where you might be running into issues is the primary MAC. I’m going off of memory at this point, however, I think you can only run commands (imaging, run tasks etc) with the primary MAC for that machine. So if you’re doing a batch import on laptops for instance, the primary MAC could be wireless which could be causing issues.

RE: Fog was working great then we got new laptops in and now, Blank screen after deployed.
I also posted this as well a couple of time’s in various threads:

3.2.4 can be downloaded from here, http://sourceforge.net/projects/freeghost/files/Kernels/Kernel-3.2.4.core/Kernel-3.2.4.core/download
-
Then you need to backup bzImage in /tftpboot/fog/kernel. so I renamed mine bzImage.backup (If this doesn’t work, either log into the computer under the FOG account, or chmod the folder)
-
When you copy the 3.2.4 kernel to this location rename it to bzImage (note that the case is important) and you should be all set.

RE: Computer Group Limits
I just created a new group and had all the computers move to it without any issues. It added over 8600 PC’s over without any issues.
-
RE: Computer Group Limits
Yes, we pulled an SCCM report of all active PC’s with MAC addresses and then did the host import.
-
RE: Computer Group Limits
I have fog .32 running on Ubuntu 10.04 and my largest group I have has 8400 computers in it.

RE: Kernal 3.2.4?
The easiest way, but not the safest would be to type sudo chmod 777 “folder path” for for example sudo chmod 777 /tftpboot/fog/kernel
The default fog password can be found by logging into the web server the going to Other Information > FOG Settings and the password would be the same as the following field, FOG_TFTP_FTP_PASSWORD down towards the bottom of the page.
-
RE: Kernal 3.2.4?
You need to do this:

3.2.4 can be downloaded from here, http://sourceforge.net/projects/freeghost/files/Kernels/Kernel-3.2.4.core/Kernel-3.2.4.core/download
-

RE: Modifying Image IDs
perfect, that’s exactly what I was looking for. One more question I have then, I made the back of the database using the following command, mysqldump --user=root fog > fog.
date +%Y%m%d
.sql. This made the file, and I was able to move that to a backup server. My question being, how would you restore this in the case of a crash, or database corruption? Sorry for all the questions, but I truly have 0 knowledge when it comes to SQL. -
RE: Modifying Image IDs
Ok, so I got this all figured out and i’m able to sign into the browser, however, i’m still not sure how to edit the image ID data. I went to FOG > Images under the Schemata on the side, however, I don’t see where I can edit any data that relates to the Image ID or descriptions.
-
RE: Modifying Image IDs
no, the default password was never changed during the mysql installation. So i’m guessing I have to sign into the mysql browser using the default fog account with the random mysql password it generated? Also the goal is to only keep active images on the server, as we keep the most recent backup of each image on a separate server.
Now, I could be doing this wrong, but i’m actually on the FOG server itself running the mysql query browser. For the host name I put in the IP address, username i’ve tried both the fog auto-created account and my admin account with the passwords that I know. Each time I get the
"Could not connect to host ‘x.x.x.x’/
MySQL Error Nr. 2003
Can’t connect to MySQL server on ‘x.x.x.x’ (111)Click the ‘Ping’ button to see if there is a networking problem"
Which the pings work correctly
