Thanks for the explanation. I come more from a Unix / Linux background where licensing is simpler. 🙂 We use MAK for certain. We do not have KMS set up here.

We must use KMS. The keys we have we can re-use until the pool fills up. Then you have to release some. I’ll have to ask the other admin. Thanks!

Do the images need to be sysprepped in order to go the FOG client route?

I’ll keep that in mind. I’m going to try the Trunk option that Wayne mentioned first.

No KMS here. I’m assuming it’s MAK. I’m the new guy still so I’m learning as I go.

      Thanks!!

Awesome!! I like that!! That’s what I did with our AD and it worked perfectly! 🙂

    • Windows / Office Licencing

The majority of our images in district are Windows 7 with MS Office 2016. I’m curious if their are any work arounds on Windows license activation after image. I do not use sysprep as I make an image per each iteration of hardware in our district.

Currently, I allow FOG to register host on domain. Then I log in each machine and register each machine on the internet with MS. We have volume licensing.

I mentioned setting up a license server to the senior admin in the district but he wasn’t too thrilled with the idea.

      Any suggestions would be helpful!

I’m trying to shave every second off of this process as I can while still keeping it simple!

      Cheers,

@Joe-Gill holy cow, 10 hours for 23 machines?

How big is your image? 37 GB

how fast are the switches for these computers? District wide – Mixed – Mostly 10/100/1000 but their are some 10/100 switches still out there. This particular lab had 10/100/1000 all the way to the server.

Link speed? 1000 on both ends.

Are these hosts all the same hardware? Yes

Same image for them all? Yes – Today’s group will be slightly larger image.

      @Tom-Elliott

      Thanks Tom!!

I’ll try that and see what happens. It took 10 hours last night to MultiCast images to 23 machines. Everything went good otherwise. All my tasks finished nicely! I’ll try the new setting and give it a try with 23 more today. They are on the same switch as the others so it’ll be a good test. And they are the same machine type.

      Cheers!

    • Bitrate Questions

I searched high and dry on the man pages on here and boy did I have a hard time locating anything specific to the bitrate settings in the GUI under Storage Nodes.

SO here is the deal… I have a mixed network with most things operating on GIG switches but I do still have a few connections that are 10/100 MBps. What is the suggested setting to limit slow connection issues? As I understand, multicasting will slow everything down to your slowest link.

I can unicast a room and achieve speeds of 3-10 GB/Min in particlone . I’m cloning a lab (same brand/model as the unicast) right now Multicast that’s on a gig switch all the way to the server that’s going at 53 MB/min (in particlone). All of these machines are gig capable.

Any advice here is helpful. I’m getting closer to really running with this stuff!

If their is a link to something in the man pages related to this, let me know. Thanks!!

Thanks for checking things out Tom!

Looks like stopping and starting the service on both the Server and Fog Storage Node solved the problem. The hosts are happy and the task is going!

Do you know of any other method? We have about 20 that have been deployed already. I can get their mac address from the Google Admin panel but that just seems like lots of clicks.

Thanks for the heads up on the new devices though! That will help things out. I have a bar code scanner so we’re ahead of the game their!

      Hi all,

Does anyone know an easy way to get a list of MAC addresses from Google Accounts Admin App for Chromebooks? We are bringing on about 200 units this summer and we’re looking for an easy method to do this.

      Thanks!!

      Upate!!

We got this fixed. The FreNAS node on our storage group (not the master), was set to get it’s IP address by DHCP. The DHCP lease went up and the address changed. When this happened it caused this error to appear.

I reset the address on our FreeNAS node of our storage group, and everything works perfectly.

Moral of the story, do not set up any of your servers with DHCP addresses when you’ve got stuff pointing to said addresses!!

Thanks for making me think harder.

      Cheers,
