@Wayne-Workman No. The other admin thought that would make a management nightmare so I decided against it. Although I’m learning lots this Summer on what the Best Practice’s is versus what the other admin thinks. LOL!

RE: Host does not boot into PXE after reboot

AD add post imaging
I have noticed that it seems like 1 out of 3 machines I have imaged here lately have failed to add to the domain. What I do to correct this is go into the host computer in FOG and click on update under the AD add setting. This seems to work most times. I just noticed this issue as of RC-1ish. I’m currently running RC-8.
Let me know if you all would like any log files and which ones.
Thanks!

Host does not boot into PXE after reboot
I’m running the new RC-8 release of FOG… I noticed this issue a couple weeks ago after I upgraded our server. I have had several hosts that will not boot up into FOG after reboot. I have added these hosts either via quick add or via perform full host registration in the PXE boot. I checked all the parameters in the BIOS and everything is just like I have set them up before. I have things set to boot Network boot into PXE. I have all my other power settings adjusted in the BIOS as well. I have had issues with new and old machines. The two primary culprits are Dell 3020’s and Dell 380’s. I also tried updating to the latest version of the BIOS with little success.
Any ideas would be very helpful. In the past the 3020’s booted into PXE just fine after I made my BIOS setting adjustments.
Thanks!!
Cheers,
Joe

RE: Rolling Reboot -- FOG Client AD issue
@Wayne-Workman
@Tom-Elliott
@DevelopersThe new image seems to work flawlessly, like it should! I’ll have to adjust my script on the other image and go from there. I’m glad I finally managed to figure this one out.
You can change this one to solved!
Cheers!

RE: Anti Virus
I know this is an old topic but I thought I’d ask here since my question is relevant.
We are using Sophos AV in our district. The Sophos installer calls for a reboot post install. They do have a command prompt version of their installer. I have scoured their help pages and have failed to locate any command line switches to disable reboot. That said, I have tried installing Sophos with FOG snapins and it does work but the task always fails to finish since the installer calls a reboot.
I did try installing Sophos pre-sysprep (following their wiki) and I ended up having duplicate names in the console.
We have also tried pushing out the installer via Group Policy. This works but it requires user intervention in order to install. I’m looking for a hands free solution.
I have looked at PDQ Deploy and am reluctant to set this up quite yet since the only purpose I have with it would really be to install Sophos. Do you have any other suggestions?
Thanks!!
Cheers,
Joe Gill

RE: Rolling Reboot -- FOG Client AD issue
Well I am currently running version RC-8. I am still having the rolling reboot issue with one of my images. I am deploying a new image this morning on a few remaining machines. I’m wondering if it’s not my image instead of FOG. In the image I’m deploying this morning I have changed the order in which the SetupComplete finishes. I was having SetupComplete install AV first and then do some other tasks… What I failed to realize is that this causes the machine to reboot before the script finishes and it does not let FOG finish. I had a similar issue with snapins not finishing because of a reboot. If the new image seems to resolve this, I’ll be sure to let you all know.
Thanks for all of the support!
Cheers,

RE: FOG Snapin Task Never Clears
@Wayne-Workman Sounds good. I appreciate the advice! I’m just glad it installed.

RE: FOG Snapin Task Never Clears
@Wayne-Workman Any suggestions? I know the Sophos install does cause the machine to reboot… It is built in into their installer.

RE: FOG Snapin Task Never Clears
@Tom-Elliott I’m assuming it must be the working branch. I downloaded it last night using @Wayne-Workman’s instructions.
I’m on:

Running Version 16
SVN Revision: 5948 -
FOG Snapin Task Never Clears
Well, I finally had a small success and got a snapin to work.
I used a program to convert my batch file to an exe and it seems to have worked successfully to install the software I was after but the snapin task in task manager never seems to clear…
I’m using RC-8. I have the latest version of the clients on the host computers in question. Let me know what, if any, log files you’d like to see and I’ll post them.
When I ran this snapin, I did so via basic tasks / advanced / single snapin. Like I said this snapin is an EXE file that was created from a working BAT file…
Thanks!

Joe

RE: Snapin Questions
Very enlightening! I’ve been banging my noggin on the wall for weeks trying to figure snappins out. Thanks for posting! I’m so glad I found this thread!
+1 for adding to wiki!!

RE: Windows Scripting Referances
Please please please let me know! I’m in desperate need of an education on snappins! I blindly hack my way through it and I know their is a better way!

RE: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
So I ran the GIT update using the commands you provided and I show the following:
Tue Aug 09, 2016 17:01 pm
Running Version 16
SVN Revision: 5948Is that correct for RC-8?
-
RE: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
This does sound like what my previous version was doing. My deployments failed almost every time. I had to kill my tasks for each system to finish. I’ve used this image enough now that I know it wasn’t the image.
-
RE: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
Do you have a good wiki on setting up a git repo? I haven’t set one up on these servers. I’ve been using SVN.
-
RE: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
Please explain… Is that a good thing or a bad thing? I thought updating both was always good practice.

Windows Scripting Referances
Does anyone have any good resources on Windows install scripts? AKA Fog Snappin Scripts, I don’t care what flavor just something that works. I’m beating my head against a wall again getting some things pushed with scripts… It shouldn’t be this hard! The sad thing is I have experience coding VB (back in version 5). LOL!!
Thanks!
Cheers,
Joe
