Hey Lee, sorry I didn’t see that you had that link under your code post. So Snorty, did you run through the tutorial and are still having issues?

Going to the Wiki page and doing a search for Changing inti.gz found this result.

It show you what you want to know.

• RE: Fog Deployment Issues to Blank Drives

What version of Windows is the image you are deploying and what version of Windows did you give the image file during upload? Is it a Single Partition with Windows 7? Or a Multi Partition-Single Disk? I have to upload Multi Partition-Single Disk on almost all Windows 7 images, but the image type in fog when uploading needs to be set to Vista. I know it stinks, but I have had no problems when I do this. Build the image giving the image file Windows Vista as the type in fog, even if it’s Windows 7. Then upload it and deploy with the host you’re deploying to being set to Windows Vista. If I didn’t do this it would say it’s building partitions, but fail after it says it went. I hope this helps.

• RE: Problem deploying snap in

Ok first off I have to say to atoms… why post a question and have people reply, but never say anything to people helping!!! Second off, Abadie, if you go into the computer that you are trying to put the snap-in on and go into c:\Program Files\Fog\tmp is there anything in that folder? If so then the snap-in is copying and sometimes it just takes awhile. If it isn’t then go to the root drive just c:\ and is there a fog.log? If so open it and see if there is anything about the snap-in agent running. It should tell if there is something there, if not then you may need to make sure in c:\Program Files\Fog\etc\ that the config.ini has the server information correct for the snap-ins. For a 64-Bit version of Windows this will be c:\Program Files (x86)\Fog\etc. See if this helps…

• RE: Can backup, but not deploy on 1 machine.... .

So on your laptop there is no option to change the Hard Drive Mode? On the computer I’m pushing an image to right now I can go into the Advanced tab under Drive Configuration and it had the option for “ATA/IDE Mode” - (NATIVE OR LEGACY). I have had to change this from Native to Legacy on some computer and also from ACHI to IDE on some models. It really all depends on the type of computer and type of Bios for each computer, but this sounds like the problem I had on a old old Toshiba model laptop we have here. It gave the ACHI or IDE option, all of them work on ACHI but one, it had to be set to IDE.

I know this is a frustrating thing, but don’t give up. Dig through the BIOS settings and find anything that resembles being a hard drive setting and try altering it. Let us know what is going on still. Hopefully it will be solved soon!

Awesome work Kamz87! It generally is something simple. I’ve had so many little things like that happen. Just make sure you always try and it never hurts to ask or read the wiki or forums for answers. Have a good one!

I understand Waldo, I’m someone who asks questions on here and signs up for the email notifications so I know exactly when someone messages back. If you need help and someone provides help or even a response, I believe you should be polite and say thank you for at least taking the time to say something.

Good point Waldo129.

Hey there Blackbook, I saw that you asked about this same problem it seems at the end of last year. Chad-bisd gave you some suggestions with no luck and now you’ve done a Bios downgrade and kernel update with no luck. You said the 5 laptops are identical and the only difference was the one with a problem had a newer Bios version, correct? What is the exact Model of the laptop? Is it the Toshiba Satellite U500 with Bios 1.70? Or is Fog reading that incorrectly?

Sorry that this reply is asking a lot of questions, I’m just trying to build a complete image of what’s going on. Thank you!

I have never seen this with my setup, but you say the other 4 laptops are still working great. When you say they are, do you mean that deploying to them works great also, only the image for this 5th laptop has an issue deploying? Can you see the fog menu from this laptop? I know it seems like you’re doing some task on it from the video, but can you get to the menu and register the laptop, or is every part of fog really unaccessible to this computer?

Doing a search on the site for UEFI PXE boot I found the link

http://fogproject.org/forum/threads/eufi-bios-and-fog.162/#post-11191

At the bottom it states to use gPxe not regular pxelinux.0

Not sure if this helps, but just doing a search on the site for “The Third Argument” i found the following link, which is also what you would find by googling “The Third Argument must be”. Not sure if this will help, but it may point you in the right direction. I personally have never had that error before.

• RE: Noreg Image Uploading?

I’m not aware of this being an option, but I’m sure since the program is Open Source you could. It seems like it would only need to call the SQL db from a custom menu option you would need to build.

Granted this option is a little more complicated than this tutorial, but this will show you how to make a custom menu option.
http://fogproject.org/forum/threads/how-to-modify-the-pxe-boot-menu-to-allow-the-booting-of-iso-files.154/

I would assume this should be moved to the Feature Request forum though.

• RE: Image storage

This has been a very handy tool, but it only took me a couple years to realize it. I always created a new file to upload even just an updated copy of an image. It has been nice a couple of times with not knowing how to rearm the SysPrep and being able to redeploy the old image, but for the most part now knowing to rearm SysPrep and needing to update images so often it is awesome to be able to just copy over the existing image. This is good info to have!

• RE: HostNameChanger

I can say that within the source of HostNameChanger changing MOD_HostNameChanger.cs file, there are two values that seem wrong. There are two records: One under the UnJoinOptions that say NETSETUP_ACCOUNT_DELETE = 0x00000004, and the other when it is Attempting to unregister from domain… that is UnJoinOptions.NETSETUP_ACCOUNT_DELETE. I was curious if this is actually supposed to be NET_ACCT_DELETE and not NET_ACCOUNT_DELETE. Everything I Google with NET_ACCOUNT_DELETE comes up with zero results, but NET_ACCT_DELETE has numerous. I didn’t know if there value of 0x00000004 had something to do with the disabling and not deleting. Just trying to give some info to try and help you.

Those are lines are 28 and line 481 just fyi within MOD_HostNameChanger.cs

• Wireless PXE Compatible Boards?

Hey, I was curious if anyone knows of a list of boards that support and have a wireless card that can boot with PXE. Where I work is wanting to go wireless with all the new computers to try and cut the cost of needing more switches. Does anyone have any suggestions on boards or even cards that support this with flashing the chip on them?

Thank you!
