@Wayne-Workman Sure will, probably take me an hour to dig out from other tasks but I’ll upload asap. THANK YOU!

RE: Snapin Questions
@Joe-Schmitt It all seems straightforward enough but when the zip file gets to the tmp directory, fog.log says its extracting the file but it doesn’t extract and fails saying it can’t find specified file. Is there anything special about how the zip file is created? I just zipped up my 3 files using 7-zip.

RE: Snapin Questions
@Joe-Schmitt Having trouble getting this to work to install Adobe Reader DC with a transform file. The plain Adobe reader executable installs fine as a normal snapin but doesn’t download or use the transform. If I create an SFX .exe with the installer and .mst file and set up a snapin pack, it downloads but doesn’t extract saying “cannot find central directory” and fails. Any advice/updated process based on the newest 1.3RC4? I can start a new thread but this still seemed likely to come up in most searches.
Edit: @Tom-Elliott @Wayne-Workman - Still fine to wait for RC5 but the problem with replacing “.” with “_” in my “Need snapin assistance” thread isn’t happening in my RC1 server so I thought I’d keep working on learning the process which resulted in this different question. Not trying to confuse with multiple threads on same problem.

@Tom-Elliott
Cool, I’ll look forward to RC5! THANK YOU for hanging in with me on this! I’ll remember to get with @joe-schmitt to get the other details ironed out. -

@Tom-Elliott When changed from pack to normal I get this response:

but nothing is installed which isn’t surprising as the file is now “AdobeReaderDCInstaller_exe” which doesn’t seem to be a self-extracting .exe file anymore. It downloads to …\FOG\tmp folder but then disappears after execution. I must be mis-configuring the snapin. After setting batch file template and pointing to AdobeReaderDCInstaller.exe and uploading it all goes south.
That snapin command doesn’t look right at all -

Given my lack of understanding of the snapin process, I’m sure FOG is fine, I’m just not telling it the right things…

RE: Need snapin assistance
@Tom-Elliott Will do the update tonight and reply tomorrow. Part of problem is not knowing what a snapin pack is? I have one working snapin which runs a simple batch file but this one is different. Again, I’m assuming a “pack” is appropriate since this one has an executable and transform file and batch file all together.

Need snapin assistance
Can’t seem to get this figured out, have looked at all posts and not getting it. Have created snapin for Adobe Reader DC using 7-zip to create SFX file “AdobeReaderDCInstaller.exe”. This file contains Adobe Reader installer, .MST transform file, and a batch file to run the install command. Snapin deploys okay to …\FOG\tmp but then disappears while fog.log shows this activity.

Can’t seem to find any current documentation on the snapin pack creation process which I’m assuming is used if there is more than a single .msi or .exe file with arguments. Not sure if it’s relevant that my AdobeReaderDCInstaller.exe file is being renamed to AdobeReaderDCInstaller_exe, nor how I’m supposed to tell FOG to run the batch file after extraction. Maybe I’ve overlooked documentation that would clarify this process. I’ve seen https://forums.fogproject.org/topic/289/how-to-make-a-simple-snapin-start-to-finish but the referenced pdf document doesn’t seem to be available. Thank you all for any assistance, or for pointing in right direction!

RE: Windows 7 Sysprep Blackscreen
@george1421 said in Windows 7 Sysprep Blackscreen:
One thought is that your av install is rebooting your computer before the batch file gets to the sc command and the net start command.
I know this process works because that is how we use it today in our environment.
To track this we output each of the setupcomplete.cmd commands to a text file in c:\windows\temp using
“>> c:\windows\temp\setupcomplete.log” appended to each command line. If the output cut off before finishing, we knew we had something interfering with the process. It’s not a perfect answer, but it helped get things organized. -
RE: iPXE initialises devices ok but reboots when Configuring(net0 00:23:7d:b8:a5:54)......
@luislesi I spent almost the entire day today trying to figure out a very similar issue - I was seeing the same response to pxe boot. We have two VLANs in the building and one worked and the other did not. On our “problem” VLAN it turns out we had spanning tree turned on, but it was turned off on the “good” VLAN. To make matters worse we can’t turn it off because the network issue it is resolving hasn’t been located yet.
What I ended up doing was turning portfast (props @Sebastian-Roth) on individually for each of the ports being used by the machines I wanted to image. I’m NOT a network guru, I can’t explain to you why it works but it did in my case. Just my 0.02, I don’t see that you have yet posted the results of the STP/PF adjustments you planned to make.
Edit: To try to clarify, I believe the iPXE messages you’re seeing up to the point of the “iPXE>” prompt is the output of the PXE boot ROM of the computer, not anything coming from the network. The DHCP boot process is failing and the PC is not reaching the FOG server. In my case it was due to spanning tree being turned on in our network. The only way around that was to enable portfast on the switch.

RE: Multiple FOG installations on one server, which is which?
@Tom-Elliott Seems to have worked, thank you! Maybe I messed up the trunk upgrade last time somehow. Anyway, I’m showing 1.3RC now so that’s all I’m worried about
-
RE: Multiple FOG installations on one server, which is which?
@Tom-Elliott Oooops, before I do that, the trunk install was done under /root/fogproject. Am I still re-installing from /opt/fogproject or from /root/fogproject?
-
RE: Multiple FOG installations on one server, which is which?
@Tom-Elliott I didn’t intentionally put anything in there, the only additions I made were in the /images folder. I’ll try the wipe you suggested and re-install. Thanks, I’ll let you know.

RE: Multiple FOG installations on one server, which is which?
@Tom-Elliott Not sure what info under the web folders is critical that I can’t touch it?

RE: Multiple FOG installations on one server, which is which?
@george1421 I do have a bin folder under /root/fogproject

Multiple FOG installations on one server, which is which?
I installed FOG 1.2 to an Ubuntu 14.0.4 server a while back. Worked fine forever. A team mate then installed fog to /root/fogproject and had no problems but when I tried to update to the latest, the version didn’t change on the console. I evidently have two installations and the newest one isn’t the active one? How can I get the trunk install to move to the “front”? Or do I have to rebuild from scratch?

RE: UEFI chainloading error
@Albertus I haven’t actually figured that one out yet. I posted to https://sourceforge.net/p/refind/discussion/general/ under "How to bypass “Hit any key to continue”? and have received no response. I’m working on other projects so haven’t been able to follow up but hope to soon. Sorry!
-
RE: UEFI chainloading error
@Sebastian-Roth Well, I updated my FOG server to make sure I had the most recent UEFI boot files and started getting chainloading failures. Took me a while of poking around (I’m no programmer) but eventually figured out the /fog/ was missing. That’s why I said I thought maybe an error had crept into the file on SF.net.

RE: UEFI chainloading error
Update: It seems that maybe it’s just the VMWare having issues with refind.efi since both laptops I’ve tried (Dell E5550 and E5570) have booted right through to the OS if no task is waiting. It’s not a guarantee but it sure looks better. I’d say all in all, this is solved since it was really just originally a typo in default.ipxe and the remaining issue with VMWare seems to be inside refind.efi.
