• UEFI imaging

Hey all,

I’ve been reading and reading and maybe I missed something. I cannot seem to image windows 8.1 with UEFI. From what I gathered, Microsoft has screwed everything up again and fog 1.2.0(along with a list of others) doesn’t support UEFI. Is this correct? Will the new FOG support it?(Trunk)

FOG has everything I need and more. I really dont want to use anything else.

Currently using:
Fog 1.2.0
Ubuntu 12.04lts
Intel server

• Fog 1.2.0 question

Hey all,

So I set up Fog 1.2.0 about 6 months ago and am now in rebuild stage.

I just received a new Fiber NIC for my server and am going to be upgrading sometime soon. I have a few questions though.

1. Is there any news about when 1.3.0 will be released?
2. If I rebuild now, can I upgrade later without re-install or will 1.3.0 be clean install only?
3. Is this still windows compatible or should I stick with Ubuntu?

Thanks all.

• RE: Storage node setup?

Thanks Wolfbane,

I am running Fog v1.2.0 on Ubuntu 12.04LTS.

The reason I am rebuilding the master server is I need to switch it to a raid configuration with a swap drive. Currently it is set up in an LVM.

1. Ok, I’ll try it. how else do you replace the images if your main server goes down?
2. Got it. Thanks!
3. Ill have to look into that. Currently we have about 6 TB of storage on the master and about 13 TB on the node. not too worried about storage just yet, just more concerned about the load balancing.

Thanks!

• Storage node setup?

Hi all,

Im having to rebuild my master server and am curoius on how to go about this without loosing my all my images.

Currently I have a storage node that has all the backups/synced images on it. So here is what I am looking at doing.

Question 1: Can I rebuild my server, set the storage node as master, wait for the images to sync/transfer to the main server, then switch the main server back to master.

Does this work? has anyone tried it?

Question 2: When I transfer the server/node over to my corporate network, they will be on different subnets. I read the Wiki and it stated they had to be on the same. Is this still an issue and why do they need to be on the same?

Question 3: The benefits of a storage node are not very clear, can someone please clarify what the benefits are besides data redundancy and increased queue size by 10? Has anyone really tested the load balancing?

Thanks in advance!

• RE: Download Speeds? Help?

I am using ubuntu 12.04.2 on both.
as far as the image format, Multi part - single disk.(not sure if thats what you mean)
time start to finish, fog was about 4 minutes slower. I don’t have exact time.

Fog is saving me time and headache though on hostname changing. Love that feature.

• RE: Download Speeds? Help?

ok, so here is what I did.

I had clonezilla installed on our server. (Dell Poweredge R710)
Downloaded the image to my host PC (Dell optiplex 9010)
Took the screenshot while it was downloading.

Next:
Took a few day and wiped clonezilla out.
Installed Fog onto our server(same server/hardware no changes)(Dell Poweredge R710)
used fogprep/fogcrypt/fogservice on the image just downloaded from clonezilla
uploaded the image to fogserver
downloaded right back to same host pc to test the image/server(Dell optiplex 9010)
took screenshot after about the 3rd time downloading to same pc for testing/debug of server.
All speeds were the same 3-4GB/min

I have the Pigz set to 6 right now. Im not worried about space as we have 4TB in the server and are adding another 16TB.
would it hurt to turn Pigz to 0 if I dont need all the compression?

• Download Speeds? Help?

Hi all,

can anyone tell me if this is normal.

Im using the same setup in both situations.
Same Host
Same Server
Same image
same NIC
Same OS

Clonezilla, I am able to download at an average of 7.55GB/min

Fog, I am able to download at an average of 4.88GB/min

Is this normal? does Fog run slower than Clonezilla?

They both use Partclone so shouldn’t they be the same?

What am I doing wrong?

• RE: Force reboot from server?

ok, still no luck.

I install a clean/fresh windows 7 OS and then installed Fogservice/prep/crypt

All the setting are correct. Disabled ‘task reboot’ globally and for host settings. Enabled ‘task reboot’.

Bios is set to WOL/magic packet

Thought I read somewhere, do I need to set up a generic user specific for FOG?
Does the host PC need to be in sleep state or idle for x number of time?

Thanks for all this help Tom,

I did as you asked with no luck. This is what its saying again when I create an image task after the reboot reset.

Its enabled on the “Host Management > Host Name > Service Settings > Service Configuration” tab on the server.

It is checked globally also.

Is there one on the host I need to find?

I have all services check on the host service tab.

ok, so after creating the task to upload/download an image on the server, the host pc will not automatically reboot.

I have let it sit for 12 hours and no luck. Here is the log and what’s its doing.

ok, so I got it figured out. On my system I restarted my network and DHCP service and it fired right up.

Here’s the commands I ran and it started sending IP’s back out. (this is after a reboot)
sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart

sudo /etc/init.d/isc-dhcp-server restart
ok, So im going to go through this and try to figure out whats going on.

Does anyone have a list of services I can restart?

Currently I have restarted these 2 services with no luck:
tftpd
mysql

ok, so the command
sudo service tftpd-hpa restart
didn’t work.

I got it working but I had to run
./installfog.sh
again.

Should I not have to do this after reboots or is it common to do the install again?

Thanks James,

Trying that command right now.

I am using fog server as the dhcp server.

Currently I have it set up with a switch to simulate our environment before I install it on our existing server network.

Hi Junkhacker,

I tested it and it seems the server is not sending out the IP’s after reboot.

My client PC’s cant connect to it after server reboot. I’m using Ubuntu 12.04.

I’m logging in as root as that’s how I installed it per wiki.

Thanks!

• Server update/Reboot

Hi All,

Been searching for a couple days again to find this and have given up.

What do I need to do after I reboot my server?

Do I need to run the basic install again or is there a quick command to start the server service again?

Thanks!
