    • USB boot without IPXE

      Good Day,
      I’ve encountered an issue with USB booting with IPXE. The issue is that the onboard LAN port is faulty. The bios doesn’t directly recognise the external lan adapter. While Linux does recognise it after it’s completed a kernel load. Can we make a USB boot image, that also includes a linux kernel DHCP requests and allows you to then point it to the fog server, totally ignoring the TFTP boot and just running with the rest of the FOG menu etc.

      Regards
      Duane

    • Problem with INIT.xz @ 74%

      Good Day,

      I’ve got a problem with fog on a new series of laptops. I thought it might be driver related so I grabbed the latest version of fog from the MASTER branch as IPXE is reporting it’s up to date with the master branch. It downloads the bzimage then when init.xz is running it’s stopping at 74%. I’ve left it running for hours it doesn’t move past this issue. I’ve tried other EFI files and it either doesn’t go anywhere or stops at 19%. I’m running snponly.efi. It takes me to the highest number.

      The version is 1.5.9 and the INIT version is 20220203.

      Thank you for telling me where to look.

      @sebastian-roth I have backups of the FOG and FOS, is there an easy way to check the version of the INIT files, because that was the most recent change?

      We used this image for deployment to 300 laptops before. However, after the recent FOG updates the following error is now occurring to a device that was previously imaged.WhatsApp Image 2022-04-08 at 11.30.16 AM.jpeg

    • Image written to end of Drive after Deploy Image

      Recently restored an image from a 500GB SSD to a 1TB SSD.

      However on further inspection the FOG server seemed to write the image to the end of the drive.

    • Scripted process to remove a file/folder before imaging

      Is there a way we can script the removal of a file or folder before the capturing of an image. Or, can it be scripted to be done after the image is deployed. Before the final reboot?

    • Adjusting last partition Windows 10/11

      The hidden recovery partition Windows 10 creates is problematic if you restore the image to a different drive. Fog automatically shrinks the main partition and allows it to be dynamically expanded. Can’t the non-sizeable partitions after the shrunk partition be dynamically moved. This will avoid the following issue.WhatsApp Image 2022-03-10 at 11.29.30 AM.jpeg

    • FOG reports HOST not Registered on Menu with USB network

      We have three laptops from which we wish to capture images. We can successfully boot to the FOG bootup menu and can deploy images. However, when I do a quick inventory, first time the inventory runs fine. No Errors. I then schedule a task to capture an image for deployment. When the machine boots into the menu again it doesn’t trigger the auto capture but reports that the HOST is not Registered.

      This fault is only occurring on machines where there is no built-in NIC, only WIFI. We are using a USB 3.1 NIC adapter.

      We can capture images correctly on the other units with the Built-in NIC’s.

      Kind regards

    • RE: FOG bzImage not downloading

      @george1421
      Hi George and Sebastian,

      To answer your questions, we use the SNPONLY.EFI as the boot image as it runs better on the newer HP laptops, we use a Microtik router as our DHCP server and router and it only supports one image file call routine.

      With regards to the network layout, there is a router that sits between the server and the client machine as our network is fairly large. However, that router has been there since the beginning.

      We’ve double checked on the BIOS version and it is the latest BIOS running.
      It is an HP Pro Book 450 G7 with an NVME drive.

      We’ve been using this server to deploy images to other computers successfully of late. They will call me if there are problems. We are currently deploying to G8 HP laptops.

    • FOG bzImage not downloading

      The fog menu launches successfully with no errors. I then choose quick inventory. The bzImage starts to download and then freezes.
      1st time, it was sitting at 0%
      2nd time it timed out while trying to connect to download the bzImage
      3rd time is has now started downloading and then seemed to freeze at 4%.

      No changes have been made to the Fog Imaging server and some assistance would be useful.

      Kind regards
      Duane

    • RE: Partclone freezes or crawls after kernel update

      @sebastian-roth Hi Sebastian,
      Sorry for only responding now. We’ve been dealing with Monthend items as well.

      1. We are running the FOG server on VM. ESXI 6.5
      2. We’ve been deploying older images just fine except for one HP 450 laptop, but it is bottoming out on the grab of the BzImage. I’m tempted to try it on my laptop as well, but I will need to back up my laptop completely first.
      3. Both units are on a /24 subnet but separated into different networks. The same has been when we imaged 400 + units previously. The Fog server is running 192.168.250.142 and the client is on 192.168.101.87.
      4. I’m attaching an image of the PCI ID’s. These laptops have both wired and wireless. The wired is connected to the network and the wireless is at present not linked to any AP.

    • RE: Partclone freezes or crawls after kernel update

      @sebastian-roth Hi Sebastian,

      This occurred on both CENTOS 8 and UBUNTU LTS 18.04.

      The laptops that we are attempting to clone are new HP 650’s. We upgraded the kernel to version 5.05 and 5.10 to try and get it to clone. We had been imaging HP 450’s before without an issue, and then when it reported a network driver not present on the clone to the 650 I did the upgrade.

      What other details do you need, and I will gladly supply it.

      I’ve created another VM, loaded it with the same details. Converted the kernel to 5.10 and I can see there is an issue with Partclone and NFSD.

      @sebastian-roth Hi Sebastian,
      Sorry the original bzImage is 4.19 and when I return to it, i get the original report that the drivers for the card aren’t loaded. I’ve just tried bzImage5.6, and it freezes in the same place. However if I run dmesg I get a ton of nfsd error where it is shutting down the socket.

      I’m also getting the same version on FOG 1.5.9
      I successfully boot up on legacy IPXE boot, choose deploy image and then the error occurs on the laptop. The laptop has a 1TB drive, I’m restoring from a 500GB imaged partition located on a VM computer
