@Tom-Elliott sorry…changing the web_root to /fog/… i did however figure out that it seems to be an issue with my switch. I used an older “dumb” switch and i was able to successfully register a host.

RE: BOOTFILE?
@george1421 question about the server install process…if i am not using FOG for DHCP, do i enter the DNS address during setup? or will that be provided by my DHCP server? If not, where can i verify that DNS address is entered on the FOG server

RE: BOOTFILE?
@george1421 yes and actually i did a fresh install of 1.4.2. I decided to wipe everything and start from scratch.

RE: BOOTFILE?
@Tom-Elliott ! Ok, so the laptop boots, and gets to the white FOG project screen. I had tried doing full inventory and I get a bunch of errors/info, resulting in a failed task.
I tried uploading images, but it keeps saying something went wrong while parsing server response.
So the first set of errors says: ERROR parsing subspaces from PCCT
Then UDHCPC: sending discover, no lease failing, Failed to get an IP via DHCP, check setup and try again. Then it goes to generating new host keys, running post init scripts.
Then Attempting to register host…Failed.
An error has occurred. Cannot register host. (/bin.fog.auto.reg)
Args passed:I realize that is a ton of info but I do not know which part of it is relevant.
I can email screenshots if its easier?

RE: BOOTFILE?
@george1421 sounds good. I have a bunch of screen shots. I will send them shortly.

RE: BOOTFILE?
@george1421 I was trying to get you to read my mind. This is super new to me and I am not sure what I had to look for. The wiki walkthroughs are def not fool proof and super vague in places. I did look in the BIOS and i can set it to UEFI only, legacy only, both, legacy first, UEFI first etc. I will try whatever you suggest.

RE: BOOTFILE?
@george1421 When i boot up the PC, it says Intel UNDI. PXE-2.1 (build 0.83)
-
RE: BOOTFILE?
@george1421 Ok? i am not sure what UEFI is or legacy. I am doing this with Lenovo E440 with windows 10 installed. They don’t seem to recognize the fog server if i use ipxe.efi

RE: Kernal update issue
@Tom-Elliott k so that worked. I’m not sure why it didnt work in the first place, as i didnt change any passwords. Shall i created a new thread for my other issue(s)?
-
RE: Kernal update issue
@Tom-Elliott yes… as for a password, it shows
mod hidden for safety
. is this encrypted? and should i just change it there? is the default password? -
RE: Kernal update issue
@Tom-Elliott well i downloaded 1.4.2, but it tells me i don’t have the latest version. If i open file explorer and go to that location, there is no .fogsettings file. Are those files hidden?
-
RE: Kernal update issue
@Tom-Elliott haha sigh ok…i only changed it cause you said to make sure they matched. maybe i misunderstood.
I want to be able to deploy windows 10 images to multiple PCs. What version of Ubuntu should i use (version # and desktop or server) and what version of FOG should i use. I will wipe it all and start fresh
-
RE: Kernal update issue
@Tom-Elliott I understand that…you are telling me passwords should match but not to change anything. I didnt change anything from the default settings, therefore i assume that i should be able to download the latest kernal update. if i don’t need to do that, then i will skip and move on to the next issue

RE: Kernal update issue
@Tom-Elliott i didn’t change anything after install the FOG server. I left it as default. Should i still have to change anything? I installed the fog server, and it said i didnt have the latest update, so i tried the kernal update. This is when i get the error message. maybe i don’t need to worry about the kernal update? There is so many convoluted walkthroughs on this, and none pertain to the newer versions, so there are settings that are not there, paths that don’t exist. What version of UBUNTU and FOG server do you recommend?
