Just replying to this with some updated information after my latest upgrade to Ubuntu 20.04 so I don’t forget on the next upgrade. I couldn’t get the fog installer to work without the -X option but figured out what the issue was. I needed to edit the /etc/pam.d/common-password file and change the following line to 10000 instead of 1000.

      password [success=3 default=ignore] pam_krb5.so minimum_uid=1000

This was because the fogproject user was more than 1000, so changing it to 10000 let the installer work without needing the -X option and the password was updated properly. I then switched it back to 1000 so kerberos would work with my AD accounts.

The PCAP revealed that there were some left overs from an old software that would open an application on a public network share on boot up of that system. Removing that stuff fixed the issue and fog-client domain join works perfectly fine now again.

@Sebastian-Roth Just tested this out and it works. I just modified the inventory_report.report.php file to match your change.

      Thanks

I might have misunderstood that part wrong when you mentioned this first. It’s not easy to keep up with dozens of requests in the forums and see it all clearly when things are a bit hidden between the lines or messages. I hope to get some more time to dig through that part of the code and see if I can find out why it was programed the way it is (or find a loop hole in it).

I do understand this is an opensource project so no need to feel bad for not having the time. I can wait. I hope I’m coming across as a help and not demanding.

Thanks for mentioning! Good to hear that we are on the same line here.

@chunter2 You are free to ask pretty much anything here but don’t expect a full answer. 😉

Though you are using FOG this has not much to do with it and I won’t find the time to step you through this. Maybe other user will.

What I was actually trying to say is that there are forums with users way more experienced on this particular topic than we are. So even if people wanna help I am sure there are other places you get more experienced eyes on your question to help you.

@chunter2 Leaving it won’t hurt anything. One might think, if its working now its good enough.

@chunter2 I am not sure either. The old client was kind of history already when I joined the project as a developer.

Maybe @Tom-Elliott knows more about this.
