Personally, I’d be happy to just have the basic PXE/iPXE booting and imaging capability for now. For our school’s needs, we could simply use a script for the hostname, etc. The client would still be nice to have though. I tried booting a Mac after the recent move to iPXE, but no luck
MAC’s are supported as I’ve added the binaries to the init.gz, though I think this will have to be manual for the time being. I’ll have to add the MAC os to the OS Listing and have it translated to allow for hfs imaging.
Tom, just out of curiosity, how far out do you think Mac imaging ability is in the priority list? We’d love to be able to ditch DeployStudio and move entirely to FOG. I know there are other priorities, I’m just curious

RE: Latest FOG 0.33b
Has anyone else tried r1231 using the new ipxe capone option? I configured Capone to associate one of our images with a specific laptop model. Everything looks good there. When booting to the ipxe menu, the Capone Deploy option is there, I choose it, and all looks good until I get ‘An error has been detected. No image definition was found for 0KU184’. I take that to mean something is going on and preventing it from associating the DMI info with the image I specified. I’ll take a closer look tomorrow and look again to see if it’s something I’ve done - it’s the first I’ve used capone…time for bed

RE: Latest FOG 0.33b
Is it correct to assume that the bypass host registration will not work with the move to ipxe, or does it just eliminate a step? It was on my to-do list, but I hadn’t tried it with 0.33b

RE: Latest FOG 0.33b
To answer the log question, there were no files in /opt/fog/log, and none of the /var/log files showed anything other than something about not defining a timezone. Typing /opt/fog/service/FOGMulticastManager/FOGMulticastManager did give me quite a few PHP Warnings. I don’t know what’s significant
PHP Warning: fopen(): Filename cannot be empty in /opt/fog/service/common/functions.php on line 10
PHP Warning: date(): It is not safe to rely on the system’s timezone settings. You are required to use the date.timezone setting or the date_default_timezone_set() function. In case you used any of those methods and you are still getting this warning, you most likely misspelled the timezone identifier. We selected the timezone ‘UTC’ for now, but please set date.timezone to select your timezone. in /opt/fog/service/common/functions.php on line 19
PHP Warning: fopen(/dev/tty2): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /opt/fog/service/common/functions.php on line 10
PHP Warning: fopen(/opt/fog/log/multicast.log): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /opt/fog/service/common/functions.php on line 26
PHP Warning: Missing argument 2 for out(), called in /opt/fog/service/common/functions.php on line 28 and defined in /opt/fog/service/common/functions.php on line 6 -
ArchFan,
I only ask those questions because I’m currently multicasting a job and all worked perfectly.
It doesn’t look like FOGMulticastManager service was running. For some reason, attempting to start, stop, or restart the service using sudo initially failed. Typing /opt/fog/service/FOGMulticastManager/FOGMulticastManager seems to have resolved the issue, and I can now start, stop, and restart the service. Multicast then works as expected

RE: Latest FOG 0.33b
Is anyone else unable to deploy via multicast? I get to the PartClone screen, and it stops there at “restoring image to device”. It’s the first I’ve attempted multicast in 0.33b, so I’m not sure if it’s just me or if it’s a legit issue. Deploying the same image via unicast works. The image is a Win 7 image, set to single partition. Verified using rev. 1180

RE: Latest FOG 0.33b
Tom, there’s a small typo in the install script. At the first step when selecting the distro type, it’s spelled “installtion”. Doesn’t cause any issues, but thought I’d pass it on

RE: Latest FOG 0.33b
it does warn that if you set a password… you need to set it in one of the config files so fog will actually work… it is the users choice to have a password or not.
I had seen that part, I had just never done a mysql install before so I wasn’t aware that that part of the mysql install routine was to ask 3 times to set a root password. I assumed it was a small error in the script  . No big deal - lesson learned. I have the VM up and running, all is well. Looking forward to seeing what else is to come in the future of FOG

RE: Latest FOG 0.33b
Finally got around to installing 0.33b in a Ubuntu 13.10 VM and found a small quirk to the install script. When you get to the point where it prompts the user to create a mysql root password, the script tells the user that setting the password isn’t mandatory, but if you leave it blank, it goes forward a step, and keeps coming back to the password prompt step. Obviously it’s not advisable to not use a password, but you may want to update the script text stating it’s mandatory, or allow a blank password

RE: ARM Mobile Imaging Server
I saw someone asking about it, but didn’t follow through to see if they had it up and working. I was asking more because I wanted input on the specific setup - the Pi is seriously underpowered for what I was thinking of doing
If you go to TCEA next year, maybe we could meet up - I went this year for the first time, but didn’t see your post about it until last week

RE: ARM Mobile Imaging Server
I’ve been using Linux for the past few years on all my machines, so I’m still no expert, but I’m not too worried about difficulty there
-
RE: ARM Mobile Imaging Server
Thanks Tom, I appreciate the advice. What would you recommend, Ubuntu? FWIW, I’d love to see an Arch install script someday If I go through with this, I may see if I can get it working on Arch - with only 2GB ram, the lighter the OS the better

ARM Mobile Imaging Server
I work as a computer tech for a school district, and I was thinking of creating a mobile imaging server for our student workers to use throughout the summer. Does it sound practical? I’d like any input any of you have
[]FOG Server - ODROID-XU Octa core ARM development board: http://hardkernel.com/main/products/prdt_info.php?g_code=G138503207322
[]USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter
[]USB 3.0 Flash Drive for image storage
[]eMMC module for OS
[]Fedora 19 without GUI, accessed via mobile device (web interface)?

[]D-Link DGS-1248T 48-port Gigabit Switch: http://www.dlink.com/-/media/Business_Products/DGS/DGS 1248T/manual/DGS1248T_Manual_RevA_EN_UK.pdf

Mobile open frame rack with casters, something like this: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000IZ787K/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=AHJ68X2ZAC7V&coliid=I2XCH0NCFDPMQS
Everything would be mounted on the mobile rack so it could be wheeled from room to room, and the XU would be connected to the switch, but not the rest of the network.
