I work as a computer tech for a school district, and I was thinking of creating a mobile imaging server for our student workers to use throughout the summer. Does it sound practical? I’d like any input any of you have

[]FOG Server - ODROID-XU Octa core ARM development board: http://hardkernel.com/main/products/prdt_info.php?g_code=G138503207322
[
]USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter
[]USB 3.0 Flash Drive for image storage
    [
    ]eMMC module for OS
[]Fedora 19 without GUI, accessed via mobile device (web interface)?

    [
    ]D-Link DGS-1248T 48-port Gigabit Switch: http://www.dlink.com/-/media/Business_Products/DGS/DGS 1248T/manual/DGS1248T_Manual_RevA_EN_UK.pdf

Mobile open frame rack with casters, something like this: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000IZ787K/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=AHJ68X2ZAC7V&coliid=I2XCH0NCFDPMQS
Everything would be mounted on the mobile rack so it could be wheeled from room to room, and the XU would be connected to the switch, but not the rest of the network.

I’d recommend staying away from Fedora 19 as it’s moved to some strange software alternatives to what FOG was designed around. That being said, it’d be the perfect opportunity to verify that FOG actually installs with some slight modifications.

However, I do think this is completely do-able. It may take some tinkering to perfect, but all in all, it should work for what you need.

Please help us build the FOG community with everyone involved. It's not just about coding - way more we need people to test things, update documentation and most importantly work on uniting the community of people enjoying and working on FOG! Get in contact with me (chat bubble in the top right corner) if you want to join in.

Web GUI issue? Please check apache error (debian/ubuntu: /var/log/apache2/error.log, centos/fedora/rhel: /var/log/httpd/error_log) and php-fpm log (/var/log/php*-fpm.log)

Please support FOG if you like it: https://wiki.fogproject.org/wiki/index.php/Support_FOG

Thanks Tom, I appreciate the advice. What would you recommend, Ubuntu? FWIW, I’d love to see an Arch install script someday 😉 If I go through with this, I may see if I can get it working on Arch - with only 2GB ram, the lighter the OS the better

I recommend Ubuntu, Debian is easy to use and learn, it’s very versatile. I have used CentOs, it’s a little more technical to set up, but to each his own.

If you are not a linux nut, I recommend Ubuntu, it just works. there are lightweight versions of Ubuntu as well.

I’ve been using Linux for the past few years on all my machines, so I’m still no expert, but I’m not too worried about difficulty there

Didn’t someone on the boards already get FOG server working on a Rasperry Pi board with a external HDD for storage?

I saw someone asking about it, but didn’t follow through to see if they had it up and working. I was asking more because I wanted input on the specific setup - the Pi is seriously underpowered for what I was thinking of doing

If you go to TCEA next year, maybe we could meet up - I went this year for the first time, but didn’t see your post about it until last week
