    Description

    Hi All,

I am trying out fog server (installed on VMWare) at work and it seems like I am not able to boot into fog with PXE. It prompts me with service request 41 on the client. For the record, client is HP Compaq 8100.
For the record, client is HP Compaq 8100.

I am running windows server 2008 R2 as (AD / DHCP) but the client I am booting with PXE is not part of the domain (same subnet though). All of the 3 machines are on the same network. I doubt that would cause any issue. I have configured the dhcp option 066 - fog server ip and 067 - undionly.kpxe.

On the client, I am able to ping the fog server ip. I too manage to install fogclient and the service is running with no issue. Is just that I am not able to boot with PXE.

I tried using another VM instance to boot via PXE but it loops at Operating System not found.

    Any help? Thank you.

  • Hi All.

Thank you for the reply. I take a look at our DHCP again and uncheck line 60 (PXEClient) under the server scope and everything seems to be working now. I managed to successfully boot into fog and register the client.

    Thank you once again.

Do you see it even attempting to boot PXE?

Sounds like it’s not configured to do so.

I don’t know what that means, please take a photo of the error and upload here. Be sure to include the entire screen, well focused, with as little glare as possible so we can read what it says.

So it imaged properly but can’t fined the OS? What did you do exactly that resulted in this?

And undionly.kpxe is a BIOS/Legacy boot ROM. Meaning this file only works with the majority of systems in BIOS mode. If the computers you’re trying to work with are in UEFI mode, then this file won’t work. Look in the computer’s firmware settings and see what it’s set to. Also, we have an article on co-existing these two modes if that’s your problem, here: https://wiki.fogproject.org/wiki/index.php?title=BIOS_and_UEFI_Co-Existence

Also, exactly what version of FOG are you running? Look in the top left of the web interface, it’ll be in/around the FOG cloud.
