In either Host settings or Group settings, under Active Directory, there is an option for “Host changes every cycle”.

What does that mean? Can’t find any documentation on it, and I’m wondering if it’s causing a problem I’m experiencing with domain joining new hosts.

PS: The Active Directory page on the wiki makes no mention of this setting.

That setting will configure the client to enforce the hostname / AD setting regardless of if a user is logged in. So if enabled, the client will restart the computer to update the hostname even when a user is logged in. If disabled, the client will wait until no one is using the computer before restarting to apply the hostname / AD.

Note that I am not sure if v0.9.X implements this feature, so altering that checkbox may have no effect until v0.10 is released

Revisiting this topic to post an update, and to say I feel that with this update a wiki entry isn’t needed anymore.

The option for “Host changes every cycle” was pretty terribly worded. Nobody except the hardcore fog users knew what it even did. It’s been reworded to something MUCH more clear. It’s now “Reboot host on hostname changes and AD changes even if users are logged in?” This is pictured below. The label is very self-explanatory, and almost exactly matches what @Joe-Schmitt said six months ago.
