No lease after trying to perform host inventory
-
Hi guys,
I am just trying to start a host inventory.
After getting a ip from the DHCP server within the same subnet as our FOG server the PC gets the following error message:
If it boots into the PXE and displays the correct IP adress, how can it happen, that I got this message?
FOG Info:
Version: 6721
bzImage Version: 4.5.0
bzImage32 Version: 4.5.0 -
@middendorf Let me guess… you have a realtek 8111/8168/8169 NIC in that machine?!?
We have had some trouble with those NICs lately… see here (solved by disabling auto-negotiation on the switch) and here (solved by newer network startup scripts which you are already using with version 6721).

@middendorf Please get a small stupid office switch and connect between the client and the main switch. Does the problem go away? Does your switch have energy saving capabilities (called EEE or 802.3az)? Could be spanning tree as well but I kind of doubt as iPXE seams to work fine. Or possibly it’s just a damaged LAN cable?!

I changed the cable, but it worked with the switch.
What can I do? Only using another switch between the PC and the server/switch?

Talk to your network people about spanning tree portfast. Also ask them if there is BPDU Guard enabled or not as this could affect it too.

@middendorf As I said before: Does your switch have energy saving capabilities (called EEE or 802.3az)? Another possible cause could be auto-negotiation again. You can try disabling this on the client port on your managed switch. But I really hope that this is not the case again.

@Sebastian-Roth Good points.
